Nope! That's why I put my mount under the taillight. Water doesn't flow upstream into the light. :rockthrow:

With the way yours is, its too easy for water to find its way in. My $0.02

hmm so you think the water is traveling down the coax cable and behind the light, thus creating the moisture that seeps into the light housing? I'm not sure I agree as I have some duct tape over the coax and top of the light housing that would disrupt the flow of any water but I'm going to take it off in the next couple days and see if I can figure something out. I was thinking it was more due to the coax bumping out the housing a bit (not fitting flush as it did before) but that is not unique to my install.

The housing should be airtight and I dont think running wire behind it would compromise that but I'll double check. It may have happened during install as it was fairly humid and I think one day it was a bit rainy so I might take it off and use a hairdryer to dry it out and then seal it back up inside. Either way, you got my thinking a little differently so maybe I'll figure it out thinking about coax causing water to move downward towards the light.

Toy2G, nice install! I think i read your install thread, can you link to it here for reference? What overhead assembly is that? Do you have a sunroof? Looks like you'd need to relocate the switch if you did that but it looks awesome!

Yea! I'm of the opinion that duct tape will fix anything, as long as it doesn't mind moisture. I think both humidity and bumping out the taillight (not sealing it with the body) will cause this fogging. I have my housing bumped out too, but I go in from the bottom, hopefully leaving any chance of water following gravity and the coax into my vehicle.

Glad I got you thinking from a different perspective!
 
My PA speaker came in today. Got it mounted beside the power steering fluid. It's all hooked up and working great.

Any disadvantage to an old Midland CB?

I jsut came across a NIB Midland CB in my parents house. (Model 77-882?)

Its even got a Midland Convoy Buddy Sticker and a slick ol trucker dude on the box!

My question is; is there a major disadvantge to this radio over the Cobra 75 or a Bear Cat for example (apart from having to manualy turn through channels)? I am not savy enough to know if there has been giant leaps forward in the past 30 years regarding CB tech...

Might as well mount it up and see how it goes...if you don't like it you can always swap out the radio. Mounting the antenna and running the wires initially are the tough part.

The older CB's tended to have louder output so you never know! I use my mom's old cobra CB from the 70's. It's awesome!
 
Sounds good to me.

The only drawback is that it is bigger and mounting will mean doing it on the on the roof.

I need to find or make a mounting bracket that swivels so I can twist it to face me when Im using it and twist it to the rear when Im not (so the missus doesn;t have to look at the CBs backend and wires all the time).

Yea, that's why I run my Cobra 75 WX ST. Its tiny and I run it through a 100w amp, so I can be heard very easily haha! That's only like 25x the normal output of a CB :flipoff:

I was gonna get the 75 and then i came across this one! Im torn...

I could save the old CB for when I buy a Gen1 T4R. That would be a cool set up.
