Recent Updates Return to Directory
It has been a little while since my last update, so here are a few things I have done recently.
Hood Scoop
Years ago I Plasti Dipped the hood scoop and then painted over the Plasti Dip. Over time it started cracking pretty badly and the paint was beginning to flake off, so I finally decided to redo it.
I originally tried removing the existing hood scoop, but unfortunately all of the tabs ended up breaking off. I found a replacement on eBay that was not quite as good quality as the original, but it got the job done. It actually showed up with one broken tab as well, so I was able to get a small refund for that.
I decided to wrap the replacement scoop instead of painting it. This was actually my first time wrapping anything, and I think it came out pretty well. The curves on the hood scoop were definitely the hardest part, but after watching a few videos I just gave it a shot. It really was not too difficult overall. We will see how it holds up through the winter and over time, but so far I am pretty happy with it.
More Sound Deadening
After doing the doors a few months back, I decided to start working on the floor as well. I pulled the carpet back and did the driver's side first just to see how much of a difference it would make.
I did not notice a huge change from just doing that section, but there is obviously still a lot more of the car left to do. Eventually I want to work my way through the rest of the floor, wheel wells, and other areas where I can cut down on road noise. It is definitely one of those projects that I will need to dedicate a full day or two to at some point.
All-Auto Window Switches
I do not remember exactly how I stumbled across these, but I picked up an all-auto window switch panel from
Trail Runner Customs for around $50.
It was completely plug and play, and now every window can be automatically rolled all the way up or down from the driver's door. It is one of those small upgrades that is surprisingly convenient once you have it. The newer switches also freshen up the driver's door a little bit and make the interior feel slightly more modern.
An unexpected bonus is that it makes it very obvious which window motors are starting to get tired, since some of them are definitely moving a little slower than others these days.
Current Look
Here is a more recent photo of how the 4Runner is sitting now. I am really happy with how everything has come together so far.
What's Next
I also just ordered a Toyota GR Racing steering wheel that I am hoping to install soon. It should be here within the next month, and I am really excited to see how it looks and feels in the truck. Hopefully everything fits the way I am expecting and it ends up being another mostly plug-and-play upgrade.
