Cell Phone Holders... a better way?

No different then the new cars that have the big infotainment system screen built into the dash.

Two wrongs don't make it right. I was rear ended by some dipshit more interested in what was going on in the infotainment system in his dash. Lucky for him he wasn't going very fast and he hit my receiver hitch. My pickup had zero damage. His on the other hand left on a rollback dripping coolant with the fins on his radiator a match for the shape of a trailer ball.

Meh... I would much rather have my phone mounted on the dash so its easily accessible for any of the reasons I listed above and not have to hunt around for it in a console and take my eyes off the road.
Bad drivers are going to be bad drivers no matter whats going on in the car they are driving. If its not the phone thats distracting them its the radio, or dancing, or yelling at/trying to discipline the kids in the back seat, or putting on makeup, or reading something, or eating. point is, lots of stupid shit happens in cars.

Agreed 100% I removed my side mirrors, rear view mirror, gauge cluster, climate control panel, radio, GPS, cb... And anytime I have a passenger I make them sit in the back seat and there is a sign that says, "keep quiet, don't distract the driver." It's by far the safest vehicle on the road, my eyes are always on it.

Come on man, that's most of our problems, we don't take responsibility for ourselves. I mount my phone and turn Pandora on every time I get in. Why? cause my phone slides all over my seat and falls on the floor without the mount. Everyone has a phone and when it rings they look at it, whether it's mounted or in their pocket.

I put a beer koozie in my ashtray and slide the phone inside of it so that it cant get scratched. the koozie fits perfectly

Y'all need to join modern times and upgrade your radio. Mine does everything my phone can do and I don't have to have some goofy mount for my phone. It stays in my pocket. Or in my left hand so I can steer while texting and eating my hamburger.

You're absolutely correct. The point is to minimize the distraction though, not add to it.

I picked this up a while back on sale. It is adjustable and attaches with a combination of suction and a sort of sticky ring, but leaves no residue. I also didn't want to affix something permanent. Here, it's easily visible for navigation or audio and doesn't obscure anything or stick out like a sore thumb. (It does obscure my tach a bit but I have an auto so it's not vital, and the holder can be removed easily if necessary. Plus I don't always have my phone in it.) I have never had any issues with it falling off in a hot car.

Great minds think alike! I have a different mount but it works perfect in front of the tach. Mine is mounted on the clear plastic. I centered it directly in front of the tach. It only blocks the tach that I can hear and feel if there are problems with my auto trans. I've only had my 4R for a month though but i dont expect any issues.

It's the perfect spot for gps/phone navigation. You look there to check your speed, why not for easily visible directions?

I was gifted the mount and it easily holds my 5s or my fiance's 6s plus. I have a second one (same brand, vent vs suction mount) for the farthest passenger air vent, same brand for road trips.

I also own the newer iottie and have since only been using that in rentals. It's much more adjustable but not needed for my 4R.

Edit: couldn't mount it like you because that bezel area is slightly curved. It didn't hold strong enough with my mount. The clear plastic worked much better for me. I can pull really hard and it doesn't budge now. I imagine my iottie would be able to though.

I made this phone holder after a recent holiday trip with no phone holder. I used some GoPro mounts that were taking up space. Now my phone doesn't slide around in the cab anymore!

This is the one I had. Scosche Magic Mount Magnetic. Worked so well, the wife stole it from me.

Hot weather makes the suction fail though.

couldn't mount it like you because that bezel area is slightly curved. It didn't hold strong enough with my mount. The clear plastic worked much better for me. I can pull really hard and it doesn't budge now. I imagine my iottie would be able to though.

I actually tried to mount it to the face initially but the holder I have has a limited range of motion. It's good for a dash or a windshield but doesn't rotate all the way around. All those stick on ones didn't work for me... Have an iPhone 6 Plus with a case so it's bulky... Found this one at Walmart I believe... Took out the ashtray and screwed it to the plastic. It's adjustable so shifting into 4x4 isn't a problem

I actually went back to my truck and realized I moved it from there to the top of the bezel like you after I had put in a 3M backed plastic disk for the suction cup. I ended up buying a Garmin 2599LMTHD gps (refurb for $99 on ebay: buydig) and mounted it there in place of my phone mount. No more waze/google maps GPS that gets interrupted by text messages and phone calls. Well worth it so far.

I'll be replacing the suction mount for 2 vent mounts sometime this week.

I can still see if 4WD is engaged and the thermostat. Doesn't look that way in the picture though. This is a 5" GPS.

I agree with the Scosche magic mount. I have one in my trailblazer and one in my wife's explorer. Mine are mounted to the top of the dash though. Phone never falls off and havn't had an issue with the glue falling off of the dash.
