Finished my project -NO MORE CHROME BUMPERS!
Hey man I just stumbled onto your build thread and I just want to say that you have a sick rig:thumb:. Very jealous. I can't wait to see what the bumper looks like! I just bought mine and was thinking about plastidipping all the lower trim on it, I love how it looks on yours.
*Thanks for the compliment pedmonds0219 ! I'll post better pics of the rear bumper soon...
STOCK FRONT BUMPER MOD
#1- DISCONNECTED BLINKERS & CORNER LIGHTS, UNBOLTED FRONT BUMPER
#2- UNBOLTED LOWER VALANCE FROM BUMPER,
#3- CLEANED & PREPPED FRONT & REAR BUMPERS TO BE PAINTED
#4- PAINTED 4 HEAVY COATS WITH PLASTI-DIP F&R BUMPERS
#5- REMOVED & TRIMMED LIMITED FENDER FLARE PIECES ON FRONT BUMPER
#6- DID 3 COATS OF "LENS TINT" ON CORNER LIGHTS AND BLINKER LENS'
#7- PAINTED STEEL MESH BLACK WITH 4 COATS OF RUSTOLEUM MATTE BLK
#8- PLASTI-DIPPED REAR LICENSE PANEL & DID A FRESH COAT ON GRILLE
#9- LET EVERYTHING DRY FOR A GOOD DAY
#10-PAINTED THE SKID PLATE BLK TOO, (RUST WAS STARTING TO SHOW)
#11- DECIDED TO SPRAY RUSTOLEUM OVER THE FRONT BUMPER TO HELP PROTECT THE PLASTIDIP AND TO GIVE IT SOME GLOSS. YOU CAN PAINT OVER PLASTIDIP, OR EVEN USE CLEARCOAT TO HELP EXTENT THE LIFE OF THE DIP. ESPECIALLY SINCE THIS STUFF STAINS RATHER EASILY.
#12-WAITED ANOTHER DAY FOR EVERYTHING TO DRY
#13- BOLTED FRONT BUMPER BACK (ONLY 4 BOLTS)
#14-REINSTALLED MY NEWLY TINTED CORNERS/BLINKERS
#15-ZIP-TIED STEEL MESH & LICENSE PLATE ON (SOLID)
*Materials used:
-Steel mesh (aka gutter guards) from Home Depot $3
-Tin Snips (to cut steel mesh) $12
-2 cans of Rustoleum Matte finish (custom shop paint) $6 each
-2 cans of Black Plasti-Dip $6 each
-1 can of Rustoleum "Lens Tint" (custom shop paint) $12
-Black Zip-ties $3
First my goal was to gain a better approach angle with my stock bumper by removing the lower valance, and 2nd to black everything out "RIP Chrome".. It came out clean IMO. This was a fun project, that was easy to do.
The steel mesh looks good and protects too,
I really like the way the Tinted corners/blinkers came out also!
