I imagine that a lot of that group voting for the 17th may switch over though man. We will see.

Also, I'll note that we had limited comms last trip with 12 trucks, with only 3 cb's. If anyone has one - bring it, if you can borrow one - do that, or better yet snatch one cheap on Amazon. Its pretty rad to be able to chat it up a bit while on the trail.

Do you remember who had the mobile setup with the magnet antenna?

GHARP57 looks like I'm in for the 17th. Have been informed by the wife that we have something to do on the 24th. Hopefully there are a few other people still interested in going the 17th.

That was me man. The midland worked great, and really the cheap $20 cobra ant. did its job as well. The only issue was when the trees were low enough to knock it over on Peter's Mill. I swear I put it back up 20 times. A permanently installed whip would be a much better solution and is on my project list.

I am planning on 10/17 for now, but if something comes up it shouldn't be a problem for me to switch to 10/24.

If you don't mind, I have another local buddy in Harrisonburg that overlands with me in his CVT tent-equipped 2010 Taco. As a nice alternative, we could potentially camp Friday night at the base of the mountain on one of the many great spots around Switzer Lake. This also make a nice meetup spot for everyone. Then run up the mountain on Skidmore Fork / Dunkle Hollow Trail the next morning. At the top intersection, you go right to Flagpole (short distance) and left to Meadow Knob / Union Springs Trail. This past weekend, we did this exact trip, and at the top ran over to Flagpole for lunch / photos, then backtracked down Union Springs to actually crawl & play on our way down the mountain.

It does provide a nice alternative if people are interested. Also, I'm assuming ya'll ran UP Union Springs on your last trip. While up is fun, running down is a different ballgame to test your driving skills.

Whatever the meetup spot, direction of travel, etc. it should be a good time.

I know I am planning a day trip. Last time we met at a shell about 20 mins from the base of the mountain. We went up the long way and came down the short side. east to west (more like north east to south west but i digress) I want to do that again so I could get some more photos of going over the rocks but I am open to doing it opposite if it is more challenging, or like you said go up the long way and then back down the long way. we would just need to start sooner than last time so we wont be very late for those who are trekking back home

Also for the guys here around Charlottesville. This month at the dealership we are doing buy 3 get one for a dollar on tires.

Not to confuse this thread anymore than it is already LOL, but I am planning on transferring (24th weekend!) from flagpole to Edinburg, VA for camping Saturday night for an EARLY morning start on Peters Mill. I believe the day pass up there for that trail was less than $10. If anyone is interested let me know or send me a PM for details. So far its two of us, both from VB.

I dont think it will be too confusing.

Chuch and one other person will be camping after Flagpole. anyone wants to join go ahead and let him know

Also Logan the guy in the tacoma last time should be coming again.

GHARP57 you should probably change my status to a maybe at best. This non-stop rain has screwed up my outdoor yard and house related plans for two weekends straight so it's looking like they will have to take priority over having fun.

I will be heading up Friday late afternoon not sure where I will camp just yet should probably figure that out. I will meet up with everyone Saturday morning.

What was the road we used originally to go up on Flagpole?

I forgot to mark it on my GPS.

Assuming you went UP to Flagpole on dirt and not pavement, it was either Union Springs Trail or Dunkle Hollow Road. Look em' up on Google Earth, (Dayton, VA) is the closest address.

Not trying to threadjack! Does anybody in the Charlottesville area have experience with CBs? I have mine all setup but I don't think it's getting reception as well as it should. Would be nice to be sure this is all good to go for the 24th.
