I believe you might be the exact person I have been looking for! I have scoured these threads to gain insight on a 2 or 3 inch lift w/ 285/70/17s that will not rub, or atleast only require the fender liner mod.

I also have the TRD pro rims, so I may purchase your exact set up. I would really appreciate any additional info, do they rub when fully compressed off-road?

Feel free to post/pm pictures of your setup if you are willing, I'm trying my best to do all the research before purchasing!

Did the same thing on my 2002 sport. Check it out, it’s awesome and for sale on the forum because I just bought a 2020 SR5 Premium and want to do basically the same thing. Definitely 3” suspension lift (probably toytec ULK) with definitely adjustable UCAs with definitely 285/70/17 (probably duratracs). Want widest stance like a little outside wheel well, fender trimming totally fine but want to definitely avoid body mount chop. Trying to find perfect wheel offset with definitely avoiding spacers. I’m thinking it’s -12mm on a 8 inch wheel which would be 4 inch backspace as opposed to 4.5 inch. Let me know what you find and I’ll do the same. Awesome forum. The answer is here somewhere, I just haven’t found it yet. I get sidetracked on all the other awesome stuff. Thanks everyone!! Forum info helped me build my 2002 5 years ago and I love it. Just finished the install of the 275/70/17 Wild Peak on my 2017 Off Road with TRD PRO rims and 1.5 inch level spacers. There was rubbing while at full lock with the bottom of the valence coming down on the front bumper. Had to Dremel off about 1/4 inch of material but you can't even notice that it was ever there. Nothing in a proper A/T or M/T tread pattern over the stock 265s are going to fit clean on the backspacing with the TRD Pro rims. Always will be some slight modification to get them rub free.

Thanks so much for taking the time to write this up! (This post is actually how I came across the forum -- via google). I swapped out my Limited 20 inch wheels and went with 265/70R17's for my snow tires and couldn't be happier!

FYI, you can visualize what the OP wrote by playing with this
interactive diagram.

You can even see how the scrub radius is determined and how changing the offset/backspace would change your scrub.

There are a couple of goofy things about that interactive diagram

• when you play with the offset/backspacing, the tire in the picture remains in place, but the rotor and brakes move left and right
• altering the wheel width doesn't change the overall tire diameter
• scrub radius always shows alignment with the suspension as if what you are entering are the OEM specs

Just remember a smaller offset makes the stance wider. Going from the 7.5Jx17 ET 15 (15mm offset) ORP setup to the 7Jx17 ET 4 Pro setup yields about 3/4" (13/16" actual) per side or just over 1.5" total wider stance.

I learned something at the dealership when I was ordering my 4Runner. I had a 2" front leveling kit installed and 285/70R17 K02's. The parts man told me that I may not get rubbing with the 2" leveling kit because the K02's run a bit smaller than other 285's. He said depending on brand, the actual height can change, not all tires are created equal. After thinking it over, it does make some sense.

I also read a thread a while back that talked about larger tires and the speedometer/odo readings. I decided to check with a separate GPS and found it to be almost exact, within 1 MPH. Most times it was spot on, some the GPS was 1 MPH lower. This was true from low, maybe 5mph all the way up to 80 mph. It shows true that the stock vehicle is not calibrated correct. Just food for thought.

That isn't necessarily a bad thing, since everyone (at least here and neighboring states) drive 10 over. When your states speed limit is 80, there are people driving 90 that have no business doing so whether its their ability, comprehension, attention, whatever I see dangerous sh!t daily. A little more food for thought

Between Nitto Ridge Grapplers and Toyo R/T, in 285/65 18, which of the 2 is less likely to rub?

I plan on doing a 2.5"F/2"R lift and Spidertrax.

hello, great article. I just bought theRR5-S 17X8.5 relations race wheels with -12 offset and 4.28" backspace. Also getting the icon stage 2 lift, 2.5" in the front and 2" in the back. Do you think I can fit 285/70/17 KO2's without only trimming and not a body mount chop? the guy installed them was recommending 275/70/17 because of the offset. thank you!

I think it’s likely you’ll have a decent rub with your setup and 285s. I barely cleared my 285s (had to take off front mudflaps) with a 3 inch front and back lift, with a -10 offset.

Yes. 5th gen wheel -> 4th gen 4runner. depending on tire and size might need from minor to major trim/fender modifications

You cannot however put a 16" rim on a 5th gen with doing work to the brakes.

if i'm understanding everything correctly, the 17x8.5 scs ray10s + 265/70/17 ko2's or wildpeaks should be a straight swap for the stock wheel/tire setup?

Yea, you shouldn't have to do anything with those. I have a 2015 Limited and I had to push the fender in a little with a leveling kit. But my suspension at that time was the XREAS Limited crap.

Yes should not be a problem. I did it with my Tacoma and now my AG Pro. I have SCS F5’s going on my Pro but plan on 285’s and lifting it. But you should be ok.

I actually rubbed like crazy with SCS wheels and LT265/70R17 AT3W Wildpeaks on my 2016. Had to remove the mud flaps, push the liner back, plus do pretty significant bumper trimming to stop it. It completely depends on the vehicle though from what I understand.

If you keep SL in the Falkens, more chance they'll fit as I believe the E-load LT tire is quite large for a 265/70R17.

You should be good to go. From what I know of those tires, they run small, on the order of 31.6 inches I think...
