I was going to suggest this as well. If you are going to go through the trouble, it might be worth swapping the type of oil filter to make the whole thing easier. I went a step further and did the remote mount one on my 4Runner:
It was definitely on the expensive side and it doesn't come with -10AN lines or fittings for the lines (like the article in the Toyota Mag suggested). But it makes oil changes a lot easier. I used to have to take the skid plates off to get to the filter and it was a pain in the ass. Now, oil changes are a breeze.

Thanks, but I have to remount it soon. I ordered the Magnuson supercharger after this was installed only to realize it will interfere. It's okay though, I bought slightly longer lines that are black steel braided instead of that silver, which I like a lot better. So once Magnuson FINALLY starts to deliver their kits to California customers, I'll have to remote it somewhere.

Sorry for the n00b question but did you find that you needed to add more oil due to addition of the oil lines? Also, can you post a pic from underneath?

Remote oil filter mounts
This is a great idea. I wonder if you considered mounting the oil filter inverted, with the spin-on threads pointing down, so the oil doesn't drain out of the filter when you remove it? The -10AN fittings come with 90 and 180 degree bends so running the lines straight is fairly easy.
I see several choices in remote oil filter mounts on Amazon. What brand is this one and is it any better than the $25 to $50 remote filter mounts I see on Amazon? Baxter does not show remote filter mounts, just the spin-on fitting with hose connection ports.
As far as I can tell in a quick search, 4 fittings and 2 hoses might cost up to 4x$9 + 2x$25 = $86. The Baxter oil filter location adapter for the 4Runner, with hose fitting ports, cost either $180 or $230, depending on whether it's side fittings or straight down fittings. Either one could work.

The mount catches the oil as it drains (has a small spill tray) so having it facing up isn't an issue (in fact it makes filter changes even easier). This is the Baxter mount, here is the link to the product:

I didn't see that part on the Baxter website.
This part is not cheap, as you said. Add this inverted oil filter mount at $230 to the adapter on the OEM filter location for $180 and you pay around $410. Add to that the above mentioned fittings and hoses for $86 and the cost comes in around $500. Plus tax and shipping if applicable.
For a better filter and ease of oil change every 10,000 miles, it may be worth the cost. Certainly a better oil filter is worth the price.
I just added the RCI skid plates so this oil and filter change question is weighing on me. I need to look under the engine above the skid plate and see how hard it is going to be to replace that filter.
Hey, you live not far from Bear Mountain. That's one of my favorite snow run routes. If we get any snow this year.

Super easy to replace the spin-on with RCI skids as they have the "door" in the skid for that purpose.

Do you have any data to show that the OEM oil filter is not doing its job or your so called "better filter" is quantitatively superior compared to the OEM filter? I would like to see the data so I can make an informed decision.

Data for what, I haven't made any claims other than it makes oil changes easier... if you need factual data for that, you're on your own.

Huh interesting. I didn't know they had these and got this. It works great, especially now that I have skid plates and don't want to remove them when changing out the filter.
