Charcoal Canister is toast

Well, I went to fix the P0171 code today and while under the hood, I noticed my Charcoal Canister was cracked. I called the local pick and pull and they said they have the whole assembly but from a 96. My ride is a 2000.
I have searched here and other forums and not really found a definite answer.
Any thoughts?? I just dont want to drop several hundred dollars at the local stealership.

Do you have another vehicle to drive? If so, just take your canister out, run to the junkyard, and see if it matches up. I'm betting they are the same, as Toyota didn't change too much of the engine design.

You could try looking up the part # on ToyotaPartSales.com and then punching that number into the main search box on that site. If it fits more than 1 year it will come up and show you all the years that part # fits.

The corner broke off of mine where the bracket bolts to the fender. I JB welded the parts back to together and then used 2 coats of liquid electical electrical tape to seal is up. It is temp fix until I can round up another CC for mine. I did this 6 months ago and still no CEL.

Well, after an hour of digging around the pick and pull..... No dice. The only 4runner they had from 96-00 was total crap. And as my luck would have it, the charcoal canister on that one is junk. Priced out a new one and just the part is 320 dollars. And if mine was built after Aug of 2000 it is going to be 480 dollars!!!
Who knew that the charcoal canister would be this much of a pain in the ass?? Thanks again for the replies.

Look up your truck on toyodiy or another online parts system, and get the part #, then compare to other year trucks to see what other years will work. Then find a part-out and see what a used one is worth, don't buy new for that part IMO.

Thanks for all the replies guys. I just bit the bullet and purchased a new one for 290 from the local dealer. Turns out that was the cheapest place I could find one.
Thanks again. Putting that ***** in tomorrow after work. Hopefully it goes smooth.
