I have checked everything everyone has suggested, to no avail. I even switched the back rear wheels but get the same symptoms.
I took it to the dealer yesterday and drove a tech around. Unfortunately, to get it to happen consistently I have to drive a little harder than I normally would around a turn, so the tech said "This is normal chatter for a solid read axle vehicle". I understand what he thinks would be normal which is the rear end not handling well because of the rear axle and chattering a bit, but that is not the sound I am complaining about. I am fine with that and understand that limitation.
I am not convinced what I am hearing is normal. If it were normal, why would it only happen on left hand turns, and why would no one else be complaining about it on a $40K vehicle?
Of course, on my way home from the un-informational dealership run, I heard the noise, louder than when I was actually trying to make it happen, on a lazy, normal speed left turn. Doh! Isn't that life?
I am at a loss. The suspension feels rock solid other than this, but this is bugging me so bad. To the point where I almost regret buying it.
Anyone here with a TE/KDSS live in San Francisco? I would love to get another opinion from a non-Toyota person.
