Also, there are so many 3.4 engines here in middle TN. They only charge $200 for a completely loaded engine and they still crush around 3 a month

I too am sad that all these Toyotas are getting crushed. 3rd gens will just turn into 1st gens with rare parts because they are all destroyed :crybaby:

The current status of my backseats:

So the guy just cut the A-arms and other stuff off with a plasma cutter :laser:

Everything is rusty, but I think everything can be used. I am not using these spindles because I don't trust them with the rust. I talked him down to $150 because of the rust. CVs appear to be in decent shape (no need to re-boot) and the hubs work great.

Hubs are in great shape!

The impossible to find center caps with the hub hole.

Sweet deal for $150. So it's new wheel bearings/seals for you, then, if you're going to move the hubs over to your abs spindles. You know about the tool for the nut on the back and about Off Road Solutions for new brass bushings and needle bearings if they end up needing replacing. Torque on that nut is ridiculous. Nice to hear about the boots. :happy:

So I got everything else disassembled and cleaned up. I restored the boots on the CVs with some old brake fluid- they look great. The only thing left to do before I take my truck apart is paint everything and order parts. I'm probably going to do this during Christmas break.

These hubs are going to look great when they are painted the correct vintage 'Yota colors! I am using the bolts my dad bought for his '89 hubs a long time ago.

I finally made some window screens for camping

I'm getting some good MPGs with highway driving! The one before this was 19.2!

I got some OEM reflector housings from the junkyard for $33. I need to raise them up a bit though.

Thanks man! I just used orange cleaner several times along with "foaming engine degreaser" you can get from an auto store. To make it shine, spray everything with silicone and rub it in with a rag.

The oldest finished his Eagle with very little adult help. He built a structure that involved notching 6x6x10' timbers and hauled everything with the Tacoma. He's now papering almost all the schools in VA with applications but I think (hope) he'll end up at VA Tech. He won't know until April what all his options are.

The youngest just turned 16 and he has ripped apart the '89 to clean under floor mats and has added decals. We still haven't made it to Maaco. He's a Life Scout and I guess the nagging will have to begin soon.

The photos really don't do it justice. The entire engine from the valve covers down were coated wit 1/4 inch of oil baked with dust. Pretty nasty stuff. First step, clean what you can. Then remove / replace gaskets / seals that are leaking. Then clean it some more and look for more leaks. This has definitely been a worthy project.

Also, I used goof off on the painted areas including the underside of the hood. To keep the hood easier to clean, put some wax on it.

Thursday Night Trip

Had a great time last Thursday. I aired down to 25 and it was incredible! I want to try 20 PSI sometime. Our trip consisted of lots of very steep hill climbs and rock gardens. Do damage except a running board on a stock Tahoe and a fender piece off a Samurai.

From yesterday at Pickett SF. We did a loop that was supposedly "easy". It took us like 4 hours. I had some light scratching and the '04 is very scratched

. We also have a few new dents underneath. I'll probably put a video together tonight.
