City Driving and tranny shift point

I'm not sure what the city speed limits are in the US, but here in Canada it's generally 50kph (31mph). Everyone usually drives 52-54 though and it's at this point where the 4R can start doing a lot of shifting back and forth between gears. You're either running 1500rpm or just over 1000rpm. Since I do a lot of city driving, it seems that driving 55kph and keeping the rpm lower would mean better fuel economy right? But aside from that, it's just kind of an annoying speed to have the shift point at. Anyone else get annoyed with the up/down shifting at just above the speed limit?

This has been discussed a lot - agree it's annoying .... the solution is to drive in S4 around town.

according to scangauge, even at those low speeds, fuel economy is better in fifth gear than in fourth. I just let the tranny do its job.

Seems it's right around 38-40mph for me. And, yes it annoys me. On a decline, it also down-shifts when I take my foot off the accelerator when I just want to coast.

I'm ok with shifting, but normally in Ontatio +10km/h is tolerated by police (except school zones) so everyone drives about 60 km/h in 50 zone.

yeah 40 seems to be about the top/bottom of a gear and I constantly feel the shifting when I'm driving. And a lot of the roads I travel on my daily commute are 40mph limits.

Yep. Same here. Both my other vehicles will coast along easily at 40, especially downhill, but the runner needs constant feathering of the throttle to keep it at speed.

I'm experimenting with S mode limited to 4th around town. If you can't beat 'em, join 'em as they say.
