Clear LED 3rd Brake light pics!!!!!

this is the stuff i though about buying off ebay, its only 10 bucks a can. my 3rd brake light dosent work anyways so i figured why not'

That stuff works good. I used it to tint my taillights on my civic. It did slowly lighten up after time, but clear coat may help solve that. It didn't peel or anything.

That tented one looks great. Now I am not the only one with it lol. I was also shocked how fast it was shipped. Did you put some type of sealant between the light and vehicle?

It has about an 1/8th of an inch seperation, that's why I used the silicone. 2 screws hold the LED housing to the cover.

How hard is it to splice wires? I've never done it before.

clemson, splicing is a very simple process. there is actually a couple ways of doing it. you could strip the ends of the wires and crimp em together with these:

or solder em together with these:

which i recommend since it has a chance of being exposed to water.

then there are these;

all you do is put the two wires in and squeeze it shut. there is a little metal piece that when squeezed makes contact between the two wires.

or you could just use wire nuts. which ever you decide on make sure you get the appropriate ones for the correct size of wire.

any automotive or hardware store should have all of the above.

thanks guys i havent put the sealent on there yet i have to go get some silicone. that seller was the guy on ebay. i couldnt believe that i got it in two days and didnt pay extra to get it that fast. i also used but male and female plug ends with shrink wrap over them to connect in case i ever need to take it off or apart. i get a few pics during the day today.

Today I had to hook up my trailer and had the ABS light come on when I hit my brakes. It doesn't do it when the trailer is not on, but is that a problem?

Splicing doesn't seem too hard. Thanks for the info wyorunner.

I'm not sure how I feel about doing it though. If I ever wanted to go back to stock I couldn't.

clesmson, you could always go back to stock, just re-splice the stock light back in there. Ya its kind of a PITA but it should only take 5 minutes. Or do what blk did use a male to female connector of some kind. then you could just plug it in and run. if you wanted to change then unplug and put the stock back in. but also heat shrink it like he did because water sucks. and if there is a gap between the plastic and metal on the tailgate, that could create problems.

greyghost, its because you have LED tails as well, for some reason when all three are LED (tails and 3rd brake light) the ABS light comes on, atleast on some vehicles. i dont know the cure off the top of my head but ill find it. FOUND IT

sorry it tooks so long but here are the day pics. one other quick question if i put a set of those led tails off ebay on will i have the abs light problem and if so what would the fix be. can i add the resistors to act like a regular light bulb load?

I think this is the question of the thread. greyghost had his ABS come on, so you might have to add one.

In my opinion the 3rd LED tail light should come with resistors.

ABS LIGHT FIX

for some people who have both LED Tails and an LED 3rd brake light the abs light will come on. it doesnt mean that it is actually affecting anything just that the computer thinks there is possibly a bulb out.

TO SOLVE THE ABS LIGHT PROBLEM:
add a resistor real easy fix.
