Cloth Seat Issue

Hello guys. I know most of you on here have leather or a TE. When I got my 4runner I opted for the cloth seats seeing i don't like leather and I couldn't afford them anyway. I have noticed the past few days that the sides of both my driver and passenger seats are showing excessive wear IMO. About and inch down the side there is a heavy line showing...this looks like its located about where the seat would compress when sitting on it. I was wondering if any of you have seen this issue and if so is there anything that Toyota will cover on this? I am very mad over this and feel that its totally unacceptable.

I have 2010 and I don't think I have anything like that but I will double check today. Also 2-3 month ago I finally decide to get front seat covers because of my son in the front, hopefully it will help. I got cheap covers and i hope some day I will switch to something like wet okole.

My car is fairly new still so I don't see the wear that you notice. However, when I was shopping for my SR5, I was looking at one with the Premium package (leather) that had about 800 miles on it and it showed the exact same wear you are noticing. Once I saw the wear on the leather, I opted to go with cloth.

I am glad I am not the only one. I thought at first it was bc my weight (Im a big guy) 280lbs...but looked at my wifes seat (100 lbs) and same thing. I will let you gusy know what the dealer tells me. i am going to make one heck of a stink over it. I have had quite a few cars/trucks and with up to 150K miles and 10+ years old that didnt do this. I might have a bad taste in my mouth because I am finding alot of faults in the $35K 4runner.

My 2010 TE has it and I have ordered the Wet Okole, but before install I am going to show the dealer and see what they will do if anything.

Sad actually. My gen 4 08 with 41 k miles has seats that look like nobody ever sat in them. From end to end and everything in between, a truly great truck. Gen 5 is off the list. Looking at another 08 for my son.

Can anyone take a picture of what this looks like? I just traded in my 2011 SR5. I didn't notice any wear, but it only had 12k miles. Now I have a TE and I'm curious as to what it looks like.

Sorry man, I don't buy it. I have had many many new vehicles (almost all brands) throughout the years and every seat, leather or cloth or vinyl, have shown wear. I'm 6'4" and 250 lbs. If I go to a friends house I check the chair to make sure I don't break it. I now have 30K on the 4Runner (cloth) and it's starting to show very MINOR wear, consistant with every other seat in every other vehicle I have owned in the 30+ years I have been driving. I am tall enough so I do not "scoot" when I get in and even at that I still expect creases and such. The only way to never show wear is to make the seat out of hardened, unpainted steel. Good luck.

I guess I do have something if that's what you talking about:

Edit: 2010 sr5 with 14*** miles.

^Yup. seems to me like the material 'bunches' up against the plastic trim rather than sliding under it when you sit down. I'm not very happy about the way that plastic trim fits against the seat material...

Mine has a similar issue. I'm getting rid of cloth and getting leather installed last week. Sick of the dog claws getting stuck on the "netting" - only a matter of time before it rips. Leather was a LOT cheaper than at the dealer and as advertised in the web.

I have 9500 miles on my 2011 sr5 and I just noticed the same wear it looks like the seat compresses exiting and my but is wearing the fabric going in for service thix week will piont it out to dealer.

Update

Hey gusy. i wanted to bring the thread back up and see if any of you guys got info back from the dealer? I am due for an oil change so I will be addressing it in teh next few weeks.

New to the forums and just purchased a 2010 TE with 16k. Noticed this issue the next day. Poor design, bad batch or wrong type of foam? Pretty disappointing.
