I know it's a really small update but I think it will contain useful info for somebody contemplating rear diff armor

I was worried about inadvertently backing into a rock and ruining a day out on the trail so I decided it was time to armor up the rear diff



I bought the Trail Gear large diff armor from FROR even though it only listed fitment on 86-95 axles. I had to cut my non functioning parking brake cable at the bell cranks, then cut off the mounting bracket that is centered on the back of the third. I had to cut the bottom half of the bracket that holds on the main parking brake line to clear the left side. That cleared everything away on the axle and all I had left to do was cut about a half inch off the back side of the fill plug tube so that the right side would seat all the way down. Only took about 30 minutes in total to get it fitted with no directions. I've got an automatic trans and my parking brake hasn't worked in at least 5 years so it won't be missed

Did the typical wire wheel the axle, por15 the center and then sprayed everything once I was finished.

Been putting off that project...haven't done it in 4 years-ish so it needs to be done again. Truck is turning into a rust bucket underneath after 12 years in In northern Illinois and central Indiana. Maybe next weekend if the move goes smoothly. Problem is that the whole back half of the frame needs to be done in addition to cutting and replacing about 4 inches of rocker on the drivers side

Well I am practicing some rusty panel repair on a rusted dog leg and rocker panels on the Yukon. So maybe once I get good at it I can do yours.

Little preview of the next project I'm working on with [MENTION=85167]jmildoc[/MENTION] 's help. Gutted all my old, wet, moldy carpet and sound deadening and replacing it with herculiner. The noise isn't as bad as expected, little bit louder on the interstate and I can hear that I have a small exhaust leak. Can't complain with that, I'll update with the pictures of the finished product when I roll the liner sometime soon-ish

Pics as promised, this is shortly after rolling. Not totally cured yet. I'm pleased with how it turned out and was pretty easy to do, just $150 and some time for no more old nasty carpet is worth it to me...especially with how much I wheel my rig.

i like it and its practical because you dont have to worry aout it, thats why i bedlined my whole exterior, i still dont know if i want to have bedliner on the inside yet, how loud is it in the cab now and i thought there were wires that were on the floor?

There were no wires on the floor except the ones he put there. Most of the wires go under the door sills on either side.

No wires across the floor fortunately, made the job super easy. I ended up leaving the sound deadener in the back and only pulling out the stuff on the front floorboards. Where there was damp carpet it peeled right off. Taped off the trim and kick panels, pulled the seats again and away I went with rolling it on. The sound isn't bad, it's a little boomier at highway speeds and I get primarily more engine noise around town. It's subtle enough that if somebody got into the truck they wouldn't be like wtf loud...very subtle honestly

I love new toys...



Front locker waiting to be installed for spring wheeling. So far the list for spring includes the locker, finishing my tube doors, and building new upper links in back. Unfortunately, everything is on hold pending what I hear from a orthopedic surgeon about some severed nerves in my left index finger after cutting it at work..

With mixed emotions I've traded my 4Runner for an sas'ed taco. Sad to see her go but happy to have moved into a very capable rig that doesn't have so much glass.

Need to cut that awful front bumper off and cut some goofy extensions off the rear before it's ready to wheel but it's got all the good stuff. Tacoma width sky's housing, longs, psc hydro assist, detroits and 5.29's. Drives 75 with one finger on the wheel to boot
