No under hood light either , or memory seating , mirrors etc... I am disappointed also but caved in and bought one anyways.

No cargo light is terrible. Memory seating and mirrors aren't that bad to live without. What car comes with a hood light?
I agree, they are ok. They could be brighter of course (that's why they make led replacements) but so far the have done the job.

Wow, yet another little feature that was dropped for Gen 5. I can't beleive all of the little things I've noticed that went away from Gen 4 to Gen 5 (remote gas tank release, LED tails, projector headlights are a few). This and I've only looked at a few at the rental car place, so no real time spent with one. Also, the Gen 5 just feels cheap to me. Hard to believe this is still a $40k SUV now.
The tailgate has two lights that can be set to "off", "on when open", and "on". It lights the cargo area perfectly and has the advantage of also lighting around the bumper. If you had a 3rd row model without an overhead light, yeah, that would suck. I paid $32k for my premium package SR5, BTW.

LMAO at the pic! It just annoys me that Toy deemed some of these minor features as unnecessary. 170k on my Gen3 and still in great shape tho, so not like it matters too much I suppose.

I am workin on this mod. I plan on running wiring from the center dome light through the headliner to the center area above the cargo area. Planning on putting a round LED universal in there for now, and making it run off of the "door open" circuit of the center dome light. Later, I may decide to put in a full-on OEM dome light in there, complete with the three-way switch and all.
It MUST be noted that another problem with the stock 2010 cargo lighting setup is that you have no light when you want to access the cargo area THROUGH the open sliding glass in the rear gate door.

This is exactly what Im talking about, I know about the lights on the cargo door, and IMO they are barely bright enough for my 43 y/o eyes. I guess Ill try swapping those out for superbright LED's, but to not have a light go on when accessing the cargo area through the window is lame.
Im not competent enough to do some kind of wiring mod either..damnit.
I love the 5th ed looks..it makes the 4th ed. look like a minivan, but I cant believe they left so many little things out that made the 4th ed. so cool.

I'm sure they didn't deem them unnecessary, they just spent a pile of money doing a model refresh, they needed to save money somewhere. The 4th gen was the last of the model line, so it's obviously going to have all the bells and whistles.
If people miss all the little tweaks that get added through a model run don't buy a first year vehicle it's really that simple. Happens with every manufacturer.
By 2016 the 4R will have all that stuff back, just to be removed again for the next model refresh.
I dont think the 2011 has any of the features mentioned as missing from the 2010 either, right? I had a 2005 4Runner, and it had the premium package which included all the great things that I miss now (locking rear diff., rear window roll down from key fob, dome light, etc). Not a deal breaker obviously, but still.

I hear ya, and I already keep a light in the cargo area, and it is annoying to have to fumble around to get it, and then put it on, turn it on, etc!
I just ordered THIS UNIVERSAL DOME LIGHT and we shall see how it works out.

yea... the lack of remote fuel door kinda bothers me. BUT, auto up/down on all 5 windows, the sunroof and the ability to open then from the keyfob and close them from the mechanical key is pretty huge!
I still miss my 3rd gen, but the 5th gen TE has plenty improvements.
Plus, sticker price on my '01 SR5 with leather was $36K! That was 10 years ago so $40K today is still a lot, but its not out of the ball park by comparison.

looks sharp. let us know how it works out. you guys are inspiring me to switch out at least a few of my bulbs for LEDs. (cargo hatch in particular.)

I had an '89 Chev Silverado that had a hood light. It was supercool because it doubled as a trouble light with 10' of cable wound up in the base.
