coil on plug

I had a check engine light and some hesitation diagnosed by a friend with a code reader and it came out a bad coil. He switched a couple of the coils around and came up with "a bad number one coil".
My question is which coil is the number one? I have looked around to see if I can find a downloadable shop manual without luck...
This is a '99 3.4 liter Supercharged Limited. It is my tow vehicle for my race car...

when your looking in front of the motor it is the first cylinder on the left.
