Compiled: FJ Springs Lift Info for 4th gen

I am considering adding the FJ springs and Daystar lift to my 05 Sports Edition with XREAS. My question is in regard the Daystar lift. I am concern that if I go ahead with the 2.5/1.5 lift kit along with the FJ springs the front might be above the 3" threshold and may required a UCA to get alignment back to spec. Would it be better to get the 1" booster Daystar instead? I don't want to spend another $400 for the UCA. For those who's have experience in this issue, your opinions are much appreciated.

First of all, thank you Swamp and everyone else for the valuable information provided here and elsewhere around this forum. I have been lurking around here since i bought my 4runner a few years ago and now that I have payed it off it is time to do suspension and tires. As far as tires goes I am pretty set on 265/70/17 bfg ats, I love the classic look and have found a pretty good deal on them. I also have tracked down a low milage set of fj springs and am about to order billie 5100s for all around. My question is should I add a rear spacer and go with 1.75 on the front setting or will the .85 and just the coils be enough to clear these tires. And if so what size rear spacer would work best with the 1.75 setting( i think the 2.5 setting will be too much lift for what I am looking for) I would like a level look with no "bro rake", a slight forward rake is ok. Also I am thinking about adding wheel spacers as well to widen the stance. I will probably be paying a shop to do the suspension work so getting it right the first time is crucial to my budget. As for my rig it is a 2005 v6 sr5 4wd.
Thanks for your help

IMHO stick to 1.75 probably won't need rear spacers , maybe drivers side level spacer if ,if you're doing FJs will give you small lift n rear .

I did this very swap and didnt need spacers. The springs gave it enough of a lift to make it level with front using the 5100s. Also set mine on 1.75. I will say that some have settled different than others and ended up using a spacer down the road after everything settled. I opted to leave it and just see what it did and still level on mine. I imagine depending on how much you load in it will be the difference but I hardly carry anything heavier than fishing gear and usually its just me and my wife.

Oh and I did use 5100s all around..

I have a same question. Did anyone have this setup - FJ springs+Daystar 2.5/1.5 spacers??

I didn't get any responses but found others who had similar concerns and they went with Daystar 2" front and 1.5" rear. You'll have to buy the front and rear spacers separately but cost less than the kit. I am still waiting for the parts to arrive and will post the results.

I have the Daystar lift 2.5" front, 1.5" rear. And after some time I want to change the springs - OEM springs or FJs, if they give minor lift.

I have bilstein 5100's all around and stock springs. I picked up a pair of 2012 fj springs today for dirtcheap. Is there any modifications needed or should it be a straight swap? Thanks.
Edit: I have a 2006 sport edition (xreas removed obviously)

Should go right in no problem. From what i understand its the newer model FJ shocks that dont go right in without modifying them(2010 and up i think). Springs should be straight swap..

So I'm thinking adjusting the bilstiens to 1.75 and removing spacers plus fj springs should make everything good, yes?

There is a link to my build in my sig (with pics), but just FYI I did the FJC lift a few months ago and measured my before/after, and it came out to about 1" on the passenger side and about 1/2" on the driver's side and about 1" at the trailer hitch. This is with NO spacers.

My springs were from a 2008 FJC TT edition, according to the seller they had about 15,000 miles on them. Rear springs are Bilstien 5100's.

I think maybe if I had to do it again I'd go with at least a mild spacer lift, too. My 4runner sits pretty level, though, so that's good.

Haven't tried my new wheels/tires yet (FJC black steelies with 255/75/17 BFG MT's.) Hope to have them on this weekend, though, now that it looks like we've had our last big snow (knock wood!)

Need some help...

Items going on: Icon Rear 2.0 struts - Front: 5100 Billies and FJ coils all around. Plan on putting the front at .85 or 1.75 (any input)

questions: Will i need rear spacers? UCA's? End Links? This is all new to me so any help is appreciated. I plan on going from 265/60/18 to 265/65/18 in the near future I think. Tire size has been a difficult decision.

28....Your rig looks great, but with a V6 I am still worried that I will end up with a reverse rake, so now leaning towards the .85 setting. If any V6ers want to chime in I would appreciate it. I have looked at Swamps spreadsheet but the data is limited on my specific setup.

Also I am debating wether to attempt this myself or paying the shop to do it. the best quote for the work I have found is 350 not including alinement. I have the time to dedicate a whole day to this and could use the 350 towards other mods, but getting in over my head scares me as I need to drive this rig every day for work.

A couple of questions.

if I do go for it on my own should I order the strut stem and washer kit here
Bilstein 5100 Front and Rear Shocks from Wheeler's Off-Road, Inc

will getting the front struts assembled ahead of time make the day of process much easier? It is only 20 bucks so if I can get some of the hard work out of the way before taking apart my rig it would be worth it. Is this stuff junk compared to the factory stems and washers in place?

As for tools I can borrow a spring compressor from my local shop and I will buy an electric impact wrench. It will be nice to have in the tool box. I don't have access to air tools.

THanks in advance for any insight.

Ok, so I want to make sure I have this right before making any changes this weekend. My current setup is bilsteins all around set at .85 in the front and and a 2" spacer on the rear with stock springs.
I want to add fj springs, shout I get rid of the 2" spacer in the rear and set the fronts to 1.75? Is it easy to switch from .85 to 1.75? Anything else I need to know or do?
I have a 2006 sport edition v8 2wd.
Thanks

right now im almost perfectly level with fj coils and 5100's at .85 on my V6

im a tad nose high with my trailer tho so i will be adding a DS rear spacer and bumping the 5100's up to 1.75 soon. should have a lil bit of rake and level with trailer after that

I'm wondering if the extra weight of the v8 means I should go to 1.75. I occasionally tow a 24 foot boat and a trailer with three quads and supplies. Mostly I want it to be level though...

thanks for the response. I will be going with the .85 setting for sure. Getting stoked to get this done. All the parts have been ordered. Still debating on doing the work myself.

That's got most of the basics down. Here are a few notes (no particular order):

The FJ has 3 models, all with different shocks. The base model has Tokico shocks. The Trail Teams and TRD both have Bilsteins, although the shocks are different between the two. The Bilstein's are definitely preferred, but any of them are an upgrade based on the responses I've seen.

That's all I can think of for now, I'm sure something else will come up later.

So FJs have three different types of shocks but are all the springs the same across the models?

Thnx, old thread, i know but I wanna be sure

Correct. The 2010+ coils have been reported to be different (slightly bigger) than the 2007-2009, but the coils are the same across models.
