Compiled: FJ Springs Lift Info for 4th gen

Looks awesome bignuge! I am looking to do something very similar. How is the ride?

Thanks!!

The ride is leagues better!! better stance, better ride, better handling....

Dont hesitate, this lift gets 5 stars all day from me!

Also, I didn't see any negative effect on fuel economy...another plus!

Good luck with your lift bojangles :thumb3:

Im planning to purchase a set of 2012 fj 4×4 OEM bilstein set up that came with the Trail Tuned Fj model. These should be direct bolt on to the 2007 sr5? The package comes with 4 springs and 4 OEM bilstein struts. Without spacers, does this set up give me any lift ? And if I want to level the front, toytec spacers or other brand? And size of the spacers? Thanks guys.

You might get 1/4" up front. Some say 1/2".
I added a1" spacer and still have about 1" of rake but my side steps are just about level.

Check out the FJ link in my sig for info on lift amounts. The 2012 shocks will not be a direct swap, some minor modification to the mounts will be required (grind down the lower mount on the front, enlarge upper mounting hole on the rear).

Oh no I thought it was a direct swap, or at least I was told so. Is it a big problem modifying the mounts? And the mounts you are referring to are on the truck or on the struts? I'm not keen to cutting or grinding parts of the truck body.Is it worth to keep these struts ? They are essentially brand new.

The front is modifying the shock, the rear is modifying the mounting hole on the 4runner.

If you wanted, you could use just the FJ coils on your stock shocks and that would still be an improvement.

The 2010 and newer shocks require modification, the 2007-2009 shocks are a direct swap.

So do you think it is worth it to keep the OEM bilsteins and do the modifying or just sell them and get 5100s ? The OEM are new.

Before, It's tough to see because I didn't take a good profile shot...

So, here are a couple of pictures after the lift & alignment.

A shot of the front end components, including axle angles (no diff drop used).

TT FJ Coils all around, 5100's all around (fronts set at top setting), 1 1/2" Daystars on the rear.

Build thread coming soon...

**Update** Build thread link in my signature...

From that profile shot, it looks like there's a slight rake to the truck? Or is it just the way the photo was taken? I wonder how much lower the rear would be if you didn't run the spacer...

Yeah, there is definitely still some rake (1" or so). I am totally fine with that sort of rake. Had I not gone with the spacer I feel like I would have had negative rake (HATE HATE HATE negative rake).

The second most important thing was getting as much lift out of the 5100's as possible. The spacers on the rear were definitely necessary to use the top settings of the front 5100's.

All told, firming up the ride and lift/leveling was the plan. Im more than pleased with it!

Headed north with the truck next week. We will see how things go in the woods... :50cal:

Has anyone set their Bilsteins to 2.5 on front/rear FJ's without rear spacers? I'm curious to see how much lower the rear is if any...

For any of you folks that tow stuff I took some pics and measurements when I had the popup hooked up the other day. Our popup weighs in at approx. 1700 lbs as it sits. It would be close to 2000 lbs if we would be heading out on a trip. Tongue weight is around 300 lbs.

I have the front bilsteins set at .85. No lift in back. On fj springs. Measurements average 34.75 in on front and 36.5 in on back. Bottom of rear hitch is 17 in. With the popup hooked up I measured 35.0 in on front and 35.25 in on back. Bottom of rear hitch is 15 in. So the back dropped 1.25 in and the front rose .25 in.

Seemed like it had a lot nicer ride than before the mod with the popup hooked up. Will be pulling the popup from Phoenix to Corpus Christi and back in a few weeks so I will update about the ride then.

So its been about 10 days since the suspension upgrade and I'm getting a consistent squeak from the rear when I'm off the gas traveling 30-45 mph. Its loud enough to be annoying in city driving. If I'm accelerating, braking, going over speed bumps etc, nothing. It seems to be occurring from the rear when under minimal load. I snugged up the spare but that had no effect. I tried running with the seats flat and that was not it ~ a few threads point in that direction. They did not remove the REAS components, disappointed there, asked them to do, but they get a pass as they've been great for 20 yrs. The lines are all zip tied. Shocks and coils seem snug. The rear coils were new take-offs from an FJ. They were quite stout. Perhaps squeaking from not being under load? Ideas?

Check your jack. It may be loose if not screwed up tight against the top bracket in the holder.

I know this has been covered but I have been getting conflicting info, so will the 2010 FJ Springs fit the 4runner without mod or not? Thanks for the help guys.

I have gathered (and acted on in the form of purchase... install this weekend) that all of those FJ springs fit, it's the shock that needs adjustment. If you're like me, it's the line in the original post that is confusing. Can we change that, or is the author no longer on the site or something?

This is correct, its only the shocks that must be modified, springs will fit.

Im still worry about these modificatuons for the shocks to fit. For those who have done it, was it a pain? Straight forward? How long did it take for the modifications ? I'm mechanically versed and have plenty of tools , so trying to gauge the project. Thanks guys.

Hey this is actually my first post on here,Haven't even picked up my 4runner yet, getting it tomorrow. I,ve been stalking this forum for over a year and finally get to be a part of it super excited to start modding! Anyways i have a question about the fj springs and billy combo, i would like to run this set up but i notice a lot of you still use spacers in the rear is that a must or just preference depending on what set up or lift you want? I would like to achieve a lift similar to the fj springs with the 2/1 cornfed spacer like PharmSCRunner's on page 1 but figured for a couple hundred bucks difference would be better to just do 5100s all the way around, and would would like to leave Xreas intact for now. Thanks
