Help bolting the lower mount

Hello everyone
I am in the process of converting rear air suspension to coils. I have removed the air bags and I have metaltech conversion kit with me. But I am having trouble bolting the spring locator that mounts to the axle housing.
The space between the axle and the mounting plate is so thin that I am not able to bolt the polyurethane mount. Searched a lot of threads apparently this is not a big deal for anyone who installed this kit.
Running out of ideas. Any suggestions?

So, I have Moog FJ springs and Bilstien 5100's on my '09. I am on a 4 week road trip around the country, I have a lot of weight inside, a tepui tent on top, and a hitch mount bike rack with 2 mountain bikes. It handles and drives great even with all the weight, but its definitely riding a little low in the back. I've done some light off roading with it along the way in Colorado and Utah and it seems to be holding up ok so far. Overall a great, inexpensive suspension option.

Finally got some time to post the pictures.
The bolts were so rusted that a even a simple job took a lot of time. So wasn't able to take a lot of pics. Anyways here it is..

The front- I am using stock FJ front springs and struts with day star 2.5 kit. The kit has been sitting in my garage for 2 yrs. Finally got to use it.

I didn't take more pics of the front. The nuts on the inner side of the struts were really difficult to get to. So I went from the engine bay with the help of crow foot. This is how it looks with the day star spacer on

And the rear. These bolts were stuck. I had to use a nut splitter on both sides.

Finally mounted the bilsteins

Time for mounting FJ cruiser rear springs and day star spacer. I also had metal tech rear suspension conversion kit. (with spring isolator)

Mounting the rear springs needed some effort cause I was using day star spacer as well. If it was just the springs, it would be a breeze to install. I had 4runner on jack stands. disconnected rear sway bar end links. Disconnected shocks lower mount. First I installed the driver side spring. I jacked up the passenger side axle to the max and still needed some more clearance ( after installing metal tech kit) for the spring to fit in.
So I used a 2x4. Wedged it between the axle and the fuel tank and put my weight on it holding the spring with one hand. And with number of tries and cursing I was able to do it. Same with the other side.

Driver side

In the end, this is how it looks

I have yet to order bump stops. Apparently, these are too long for the coil suspension.

Next spring under carriage paint.

Drives awesome. Don't miss XREAS and Height control.
Just want to get rid of the pesky height control dash light.

So much useful info but looking for more.

Planning on doing 5100 + FJ springs and found some FJ Trait Team on Craigslist. Does anyone have experience with them? Are they much different from regular FJ coils? And most importantly will they provide me similar (aiming for 2") lift?

Got around to doing mine last weekend. Did the whole thing for $450 in parts, and am super happy with the outcome. Only thing I didn't expect was the Driver's Side lean. I guess I expected the new suspension to even things up and then over time it would settle again. Not going to deal with it now, but may do a trim spacer later to level it up.

All told though, it's a major difference in ride height and ride style. Previous ride with 78k on it wasn't too bad, but it's a little more stiff of a ride now and yet somehow eats up the bumps around town beautifully. I only did the 0.85" perch with the Moog FJ springs, but it's a noticeable difference and I'm loving it so far.

Measurements:
Corner - Before - After
F Right - 33.75 - 36.25
F Left - 33.125 - 35.50
R Left - 35.625 - 36.75
R Right - 35.75 - 37.75

My 2006 V8 Xreas 4runner is in need of a front end refresh so Im throwin on some 2013 FJ coils and adjustable billstiens. Theres so many post here that Im looking for a some info on spacers.
On order is LCAs, CV axles, and drag link kit.

The FJ coils and struts that my friend gave me are in good condition so Im keeping the top hats unless some one else has some other advice for me.

The goal is do a minimal lift so Im thinking the front shocks are going to be set at the lowest setting.

What recommendations on spacers do you all have to achieve a level ride, front to back and side to side?

Fj+Bilstein etc

Ended up with kind of a mix of components so I thought I’d post. Love the way it came out.

Front: Moog 81108 with Bilsteins at 1.75, toytec .5” top plate
Rear: factory FJ 4x4 springs, bilsteins, 1.5” daystar spacer
Tires: 255/75r17 firestone destination A/T on procomp

Bought the runner with a 2/1 lift already on it, and it had a 2” rake. The current front lift brought it up 3.5” over the factory springs at first, and that settled to 3” with 2” spacers. Factory front coils had some some serious sag at 135k!

5100s, front at 1.75, FJ Springs, and 1.5 Daystar spacer.

Thanks to this forum, and this thread in particular, I was able to get rid of the mushy XREAS and spacer lift. The ride is much better now and fixed the slight bump steer issue I was having at highway speeds.

No before pictures but picture a 2006 v8 with dead oem xreas suspension.
This photo is taken 2 days after having Miyaki Motorsports install the 2/1 cornfed spacers, 2013 fj coils, adjustable bilstiens set on the lowest setting. Also had them instal new LCAs, drag links and cv axles.

Love the way it rides now.

EDIT: I got these tires (255/75r17 Duratracs, C load) for ~$510 installed.... goodyear.com, promocode MAPQUEST20, with $200 rebate with GY credit card. I think this expires 12/31, if you need some new tires...

Installed 5100's on all 4 corners and moog FJ springs. The height, ride, etc. are perfect. I am going to revisit the rear driver spring. I grinded down the passenger rear and it seated pretty nicely. The driver's side did not, but I was exhausted so figured I'd get to it later. Lots of rusted together parts made this job take WAY too long.

2006 - V8, 4x4 SR5. Put the 5100 on the 3rd slot (1.85"), used the no compressor method - which worked like a charm. I have stock UCA's and the alignment did not come out great, but close enough.

Note: get an air hammer from harbor freight for $15 and save 4 hours...

Just swapped in the Bilstein 4600s and front springs from a 2015 Tacoma TRD Offroad ($130 locally off Craigslist) and 2007 OEM FJ rear springs ($70 shipped from an FJ Cruiser forum member).

T7iiZqPl.jpg

My 'before' measurements showed the passenger side rear was 3/4" lower than the driver's side. The FJ springs evened that up and now both sides measure out at 35 3/4" from floor to the fender. (I used a Bosch laser device like this so I'm confident in the numbers.)

I got 1.5" up front from the new setup so it's nicely leveled all around, and that was the goal. Rides and handles much better than my worn out X-REAS with 149K on the clock.

Hey everyone, amazing compilation. Been reading it for the last couple days and going cross-eyed. I'm trying to figure out the following and haven't had much luck in getting an answer for specific questions. I'm also not an expert with suspensions.

I have a 2008 4Runner V6 Limited, no XREAS, stock everything including the 18" wheels. I find that the truck drives more rough now and wondering if the shocks/struts/coils are finally getting to their end. Only have 98K miles. I also have a 2012 Infiniti FX35 with the same mileage and find it's much more comfortable which I can understand it being a luxury vehicle but I don't quite remember the 4Runner being that rough in the last few years.

So what I'm trying to do is make the ride more comfortable and see if any suspension changes will make it more like the Infiniti or close to it. Not looking to raise it too much, maybe about 1-1.5 in the front and 1 in the back. Mostly used in the city.

My questions are as follows and I'm hoping you awesome folks can help me out:

1. Difference (spring rate/ride quality) between FJ 07-09 and FJ 2010+ coils (front/back)?

2. Difference between 4th gen limited shocks/struts vs FJ 07-09 shocks/struts vs FJ 2010+ shocks/struts?

3. Read in one of the threads that the spring rate on the FJ coils are lower than the T4R but they're longer so it gives it more lift/travel. What would be the pros/cons?

4. Looking at the part numbers for the FJ Cruiser there's a stock strut/shock (Tokico) and an off road edition (Bilsteins). What's the difference between the two?

5. Read that some have experienced a lean on the driver's side and not sure if this is a FJC 07-09 coil issue which was later corrected in the FJC 2010+ coils?

6. I'm looking to do one of the following but not enough data to see which one would be a better fit for me. All parts would be new.

08 4Runner Limited V6 shocks/struts(OEM Tokico) with FJ 07-09 coils

08 4Runner Limited V6 shocks/struts(OEM Tokico) with FJ 2010+ coils

FJ 07-09 shocks/struts (OEM Tokico) with FJ 07-09 coils

FJ 07-09 shocks/struts (OEM Tokico) with FJ 2010+ coils

FJ 07-09 shocks/struts (OEM Bilsteins/Off Road Edition) with FJ 07-09 coils

FJ 07-09 shocks/struts (OEM Bilsteins/Off Road Edition) with FJ 2010+ coils

Thanks in advance

FWIW, I took this shot of my stock '07 Sport rear spring vs. the new-to-me 2007 FJ spring I installed. They're sitting upside down here - the rounded end is on the bottom when installed and the flat end is on top.

Did you just snag these off of eBay?

Moog (part number 81081) makes a pair of FJ rear springs that are only like $70 shipped on eBay, wasn't sure if these (or RockAuto) ones were considered alright or if a used OEM pair from an FJ is preferred.

AC Delco also lists 45H2141 as replacement rear springs for 4WD FJ's but they are a tad pricier.

No, I got them for $70 shipped from an owner on an FJ Cruiser forum. He took them off when he lifted his 2007 FJ after a few thousand miles and had them sitting in his garage ever since. In retrospect, I may have overpaid a bit for them but on the other hand, they were exactly as promised, the guy shipped them immediately, and they were perfectly packed so I was happy with the transaction.
