Zimm -- I have no idea. I will re-post.

I say BIG TIME kudos to the inexperienced driver for having the presence of mind to throw it in Park and stopping the vehicle.
Most would have just pushed harder on the brake pedal while their brain tried to comprehend the ineffectiveness of their action; even experienced drivers.
You took it in for a noise and they changed the thermostat? That is some funny **** right there.
This is exactly why I called Toyota CC. It did not make any sense.
Called CC? WTF? You were the one that authorized the service. So if you went to the Doctor with a broken toe, you are going to let them give you an asthma inhaler and call it a day?
Come on man, come clean. You are making this up.
If anyone is thinking the parking brake is an option be sure to test that theory before deciding that it is plan A for a brake failure.

What else is the EMERGENCY brake for?
Again, and again...it is not an 'emergency brake'...not any more...It is a parking brake
As has been stated already, the term "Emergency Brake" is no longer correct. These days, Parking brakes are weak and are only meant to hold the vehicle at a stop, hence why even in a honda you can overpower your parking brakes. They just aren't built to stop such heavy modern cars anymore. What else is the EMERGENCY brake for?
If you have complete failure of your brakes you're really not left with a lot of other options. I can assure you that it can stop a car that's moving. You think the government would let cars drive on the road with a brake system that has no back up? It has more than enough power to slow you down.Again, and again...it is not an 'emergency brake'...not any more...It is a parking brake.
But glad to hear no one got hurt...
What I was getting at.I agree it's no longer called the emergency brake...But guess what...if my brakes fail I'm going to use the parking brake to make an emergency stop. While it may not be called an emergency brake it's about the only option you have.
So when you first heard the ABS/Brake Everything system cycling through before turning over the ignition, how long did it cycle through before shutting off?
Mine does it for 15-30 seconds then turns off. Then as I pull away from my driveway, I may hear it click over a few times then it I never hear it again.
It was intermittent at first, but you could hear it occasionally when at a stop light. Over the past year, it was more prevalent which is why we brought the car in to get checked -- more than once. The system was in cycle mode all the time.
It has been so long since our car was 'normal' - I am not sure if what you are hearing is normal or not. Maybe another Forum member can chime in.
