Condensation underneath driver-side floot mat?

That's your problem. Reseat the grommet, running the wires THROUGH the grommet, then seal it with RTV. If you don't it will leak every time it rains or you wash it. The water runs straight down into that hole and under the carpet. On my 98, the PO ran some strereo wires through the grommet and left a tiny little hole and it was wet all the time. It's the perfect water catcher.

I did that but I really think that the water wasn't coming through there. That red wire was originally hooked up to an amp and sub--I took it out. First of all, the truck is garaged. 2nd of all, I took a 2 hr. drive this morning; before I left the house, I looked under my Husky liner and it was dry. When I got home, I lifted up the Husky liner and it was covered in condensation. It did not rain today. Otherwise, yes, I would have thought that the water was coming through the firewall but i think the condensation tubes are

I would suspect the A/C drain too but the evaporator is on the passenger side and so is the drain. The evaporator is the lowest spot for condensation to collect. In other words, I'd expect the passenger side to be soaked if it was a plugged drain. I really don't think there is any way for water to get to the driver's side from the A/C unless it soaks the carpet from the passenger side.

A few years ago my father sold me the 4runner he bought new. He really didnt use it much the last couple years he owned it. Anyway, when I would drive it I could always get this faint mildew smell. When I bought it from him I ripped the carpet completely up. When I got to the drivers side floorboard it was wet. We finally figured out that the factory alarm (which was a dealer installed accessory) was installed wrong. The ran the wires like yours are on the outside of the grommet. If you pour water over the windshield you can watch it slowly trickle down and hit that grommet. I recommend pulling the drivers seat out (4 bolts) and pulling the carpet up. You should then replace the under carpet insulation with some generic sound deadening. I disinfected all the area under the carpet. Rerun your wires through the middle of the grommet and you will never have the problem again. I fixed mine almost 3 years ago.

Here's how I ran power for my 2M FM radio. Cut a slit in the grommet and RTV it to death. No leaks.

Yeserday I was re-torquing the BL bolts and upon opening the drivers side kick panel and exposing the BL mount plug, I felt what it seemed like some dampiness beneath the undelay.

I could almost wring out the water that formed under there. Time for some good 'ol silicone to that grommet then!

Yeah this might not be your problem but I would atleast try it if you want. Actually mine was a 2002 tacoma that was doing this not my Runner but they are very similiar! Its not gonna hurt anything atleast it didnt for me anyway! If its not comming through the wireing then what else could it be?? I really dont know!

But if you wanna try this, I drew up a little diagram for ya in a picture of mine under the hood. Mine is 2001 T4R. I think all years will turn but im not possitive on that. If it doesnt seem to wanna turn dont break it!!

I am also attaching a picture of the tool that I used to "carefully" grab the end to turn it. (Its pretty tight in there & could not reach it with my hand)You may not have to use it but I just thought I would post it on here so that if you wanted to you will know what I am talking about..

Well everyone, I still haven't found the answer yet. I talked to a toyota tech over the phone today and he convinced me that if the ac drain pumps were backed up, that I would be seeing moisture on the passenger-side, not the driver side. I'm stumped on this one. :sobbing::moping::shrug:

I pulled up the carpet again today and looked at the drain plug on the driver-side and, sure enough, water was there. FACE PALM! I keep racking my brain as to where it's coming from. It's killing me. I cannot find the source of where it could be coming from.

As a quick fix, I just purchased some silica gel packets and am going to throw them under the carpet until I figure this out.

Not sure if you have done this or not, but why don't you just pull up the carpet on the drivers side and drive it around with no carpet. Perhaps this will help you see why the moisture is coming from. Good luck.

Boy does this thread hit home... and how....

2 weeks ago we had some pretty heavy rain here in NY. I was driving and felt some water on my foot...I looked down and had a STEADY STREAM of water hitting my left foot.The water was coming in from where my 4/8 GA was coming in from the Battery... I believe the Piaa's also come through there too.

The funny thing is that the water was not coming up(through splashing) it was actually riding down the pillar and into the engine compartment found a wire and then rode it down inside.

I think My Alarm has it's own hole.. but either way all of the holes have been sealed. I removed all of the old sealant pushed in some grommits not only to help seal but to make sure that the 12v buss does not wear away the covering and short to ground.

So far so good..

I'm having the same problem. I just installed my transmission cooler the other day and to run the wires for the fan and switch i saw that the previous owner ran the power wire for the subwoofer through it as well and my drivers floor board has been getting wet. So I'm going to reseal it soon so I can see if that fixes my problem because I've checked the sunroof drains and they are good

I had no idea why my floorboard was wet every now and then. Kept forgetting to search on here for others having this issue. Sure enough, my power wire for my subs is running around that grommet. I feel dumb. Thanks guys.

Alot of installers dont go through the grommit as they should it's often easier to poke a small hole through it then going around it(minding any and all wires and harnesses) and then seal the snot out of it...The smaller the hole makes for a better "self seal" I start out with the smallest hole and work my way up from there..

or if you are energetic enough get a chassis punch and a right angle drill and make a hole JUST large enough for what you will be doing... I sort of believe in seperate holes, i dont mean a swisscheese firewall... but you get the idea.
