Confusion with location of o2 sensor part # 234-4162

Hi -

Was hoping someone could help me out - I am dealing with the P0420 code - and am at the point where I am ready to replace the O2 sensor.

My vehicle is a 2001 V6 T4R, 2WD, Automatic....I have received the sensor from Amazon, it is the one that bolts down to the exhaust with two bolts. For whatever reason, I was thinking this particular sensor is down near the muffler, but here is what I am seeing underneath:

From the muffler, moving back towards the engine, I see one sensor, that screws straight into the exhaust pipe, then moving further back towards the engine, another sensor, again, screws straight into the pipe. Going further back towards the engine, just before the pipe turns up towards the exhaust manifold, I see a 3rd sensor, with the bolts, etc.

Is this the sensor I am looking to replace? I believe it is, but, I was thinking that the location was closer to the muffler....

1. The 234-4162 does NOT fit your truck. It is a flange-type O2 sensor and they were only used before 2001. 2001+ used flange-type A/F sensors in front and screw-in O2 sensors in the rear ONLY.

2. Your truck takes a flange-type Air/Fuel sensor 234-9002 in front and a screw-in o2 sensor 234-4261 in back. (Did you mess up and get a 234-4162 instead?)

3. No 3G truck had more than two exhaust sensors. You have the rear sensor after the second cat before the muffler which is a screw-in. You have a front sensor before the first cat on up pipe to the cross-pipe which is a flange-type. Anything else, you need to take a picture of because I'd like to see it.

Send the 234-4162 back and get a 234-4261.

Hi -

Yep - looks like I screwed up. I ordered the part I have based on what I thought was a Denso site, took that part number, and ordered off Amazon. I just did an exchange on Amazon, so the new sensor should be here on 12/30.

As for the number of sensors, I will get back under and recheck the number I saw.
