Corral Canyon 29-31

Im wanting to do sidewinder or similar I’m free Sunday-Tuesday. Anyone want to join I’d rather not go solo.

I’ve never done corral canyon before but I’ve been wanting to for sometime now. Unfortunately I’m not free. There is a big bear run coming up with the ttora guys on aug 4-5th if your interested. I’ll be up there for the weekend.

I do not recommend doing this trail if you like your cars paint

Up to this point I was taking the more difficult line, then I started smelling something...

My sway bar link broke and tore my outer cv boot. [emoji36] this was exactly halfway thru the trail. I decided to take an easy after this, stacking rocks and such.

A rock decided to reach out and kiss me towards the end of the trail. This trail is very tight, I’m not sure a spotter would have helped prevent the scrape because I was all the way on the left side when it happened.

Sliders and skids are a must on this trail as well.

All in all really fun trail, I won’t do it solo next time because there are some really tough sections I would have liked to try. Now I get to learn how to install the spare cv axle I’ve been keeping in the back.

I can't believe you did that solo haha. Great to see you mostly made it through.

I've done it with a group and of course someone's diff was shredded. Plus on youtube there are plenty of rollover videos so there's that.

To get to Sidewinder did you come around Los Pinos Mtn trail via Espinosa Trail from the north end/approach?
I tried to run that today with my brother. We went up to the fire tower and talked with the forest service dude and he warned us that a lot of folks were getting stuck on the decent.
Sure enough on the decent down Espinosa Trail (aka Corte Madera Road) junction the usual "toughest section" was totally washed out exposing a huge boulder patch with sheer faces. It looked way too difficult for our vehicles so we went the other way around.
It was just about the location of this pin: 32°45'10.1"N 116°36'18.2"W

Just wondering if you came upon that patch of boulders up there and if so made it up or down depending on your route.

Thanks for the reply, I wish we had taken pictures of it, as I sent a few notes to Funtreks.com who still have it listed as Moderate Trail runnable by "any stock high clearance 4x4 SUV", and there is no freakin' way a stock vehicle could do that anymore.

Forest Service Fire tower guy said the rest of the road was being graded by the local power and phone companies for access back there, so the conditions might improve when they get to that section. Which is good, but then it will turn a fun decent which is currently blocked by that boulder patch to just a smooth fire road. I guess that's better access for Sidewinder and Bronco Peak though.

Yeah, I had read a few online reviews of the trail and thought we'd be able to make it. We started down from the Fire Tower and then spotted the rock garden and decided NFW. So we went and did the entire trail the opposite way (counter clockwise I guess) until we got to the bottom of the rock garden. There definitely some fun and technical bits in there that required 4-Lo, but nothing that required armor. Our rigs did get all kinds of scratched to hell from the Manzanita.

Sorry I was outta the country for a few days... I came up Morena Stokes Rd made a left on Los Pinos Rd and then started sidewinder at the first turn off. If you go to trailsoffroad.com I did the same direction as they did. I think I know which part your talking about, I kept on the right side. Lots of broken glass on the left side.

Our rigs did get all kinds of scratched to hell from the Manzanita.

OMG, YES!!! The pinstriping from the Manzanita is like finger nails on a chalk board when it runs down the side of your paint. I had a lot of scratches before we left, but now my passenger side is pretty much totally f**ked.
Even some of the low hanging branches scraped the Gobi rack and knocked my 40" light bar out of alignment.

When we got home the wife was laughing pretty hard at us. Glad she understands that we didn't buy the rig to keep it looking pretty, but to get out there and have some fun.

They really "pop" on the darker colors!! My friend's Lexus Landcruiser looked like that.
