Cost to LineX Sliders - Reasonable?

For both Sliders to be sandblasted and LineXed they want $550-$650 depending on how easy the rattle can bed liner comes off.
Looking for opinions, it seems high to me. I have 1 more quote request out and if it comes back around the same I will evaluate my options

Sliders are Budbuilts w/ bump out and full tread plating

The goal is to coat the sliders with something that will hold up to normal use as a step and the road conditions of the upper Midwest better then my original rattle can job and be as reasonably priced as possible. I do not expect any coating to actually hold up to use as sliders but that should be few and far between.


A few options
- Live with the rust and do nothing
- Sandblast and try again with self applied product
- Suck it up and get them lineX'd (assuming they would hold up to everything but actual use as sliders)
-Get quote for powder coating and sandblasting - I don’t think this would be as permanent of a job as LineX but likely cheaper
-See how much Rusted Budbuilts go for and apply that + some to a set of SS sliders if anyone makes them.

I got my 2004 Tacoma bed Rhino lined for high $400's. Not sure if that's apples to apples, but a reference non the less.

What I would do?
1. Go buy about 10 cans of rustoleum semi gloss black. Wash and use a scuff pad to clean yours up and put a coat on.
2. Next year about this same time repeat step one.
3. The following year repeat step two.

They are mild steel with no special metallurgy or coating to make them rust resistant. No matter what you do a nice pointy rock is going to get kicked up off the road and start the whole process again.

Get rid of your ADD and follow my 10/10 rule: If it looks good at 10 feet or at 10 mph then it's good.

Now you could get stainless lol. Those are probably only $14,372 a side.

That is the route that I will likely end up down but I think your an order of magnitude off on the SS versions, closer to $1,400 per side

While I am not ADD about scratches, body damage etc , visible rust I can’t stand in my day job and don’t like on my cars either. It may just be a suck it up and live with it type situation but I will evaluate the options before I make that call.

Nah, POR 15 chips in flakes and a bltch to work with (dont get it on your hands). I had some like this in mind:

That's a horrible cost to LineX those. You can get cheaper quotes, probably in the $300-$350 range.

Or you can drop $80 on an Als Liner kit on Amazon and roll it on yourself. Rattlecan bedliner sucks, but the rolled stuff is pretty durable. You'll have plenty to lay it on thick and have some leftover, and it'll hold up to road gravel and careless door dings. Just be sure to prep really well and use a rust eating primer before you apply the adhesion promoter, because any rust left under there will spread.

Yeah, not a very good price point on the LineX.

I'd do like the others suggested and just keep roughing them up and reapplying the rattle can or whatever DIY product you prefer.

Agreed and Please do yourself a favor and invest about $5 in cheap dust masks at Lowes/Home Depot before you spray. I had some Demello Sliders I painted without a mask and ended up inhaling a bunch of fumes/overspray. I hate to say it but I think I may have caused long term damage to my lungs.

Repainting sliders

For the price you're quoting you can buy new rock rails. Add shipping if you have to ship them anywhere.

These photos point out the problem with the diamond plate treads. The thread plate is going to make it much harder to sand off the rust.

I'd sand the rust off and paint with anything. My first choice would be brush on primer and paint from Rustoleum. I prefer to paint with a brush over spraying for small shapes like this, partly due to environmental concerns like the waste of overspray and propellant and spray cans that can't easily be recycled.

Thank you for all the input, I will follow up if the other LineX price is more reasonable and also which direction I go/how it holds up. I have found lots of good info on other forums (Jeep, i8mud etc) about options/opinions.

Yeah the problem is cleaning those looks like it's gonna suck. That's probably more than half your cost. I was told they could line-x my entire 4runner including aftermarket bumper and sliders for 2500 but mine are still in very good shape. I would see if you could get a cheap quote from a machine shop on cleaning up the rust and coatings and then take them already prepped to the line-x place.

well since your up here in the same neck of the woods, there is another option.

after you do all this work, remove them during the winter. I bet most of what you see if from the snow (salt/urea/sugar beet/dirt) ice melt they tend to use up here.

I think that is the only holdback I have with sliders up here in the northern tier states.

I keep thinking man those would be awesome, but then the 6-8 months of winters we have jerks me back to reality of why I have the oem crap running boards that does wonders to keep snow/ice off the lower rocker panels and longevity of having plastic based running boards.

I would use POR15, if done properly it's practically bulletproof. Those that had chipping or flaking did not prep correctly so it didn't adhere as it's supposed to. Or you could have them powder coated which should be cheaper then Line-X

Did it as package with bumper, $275 for coating, $100 for prep but they were new and had no existing coat to remove. I'd say offer them $450, or call another dealer.

Expensive, but so nice . . . You'll never look back. Plus there's a lot more room in your wallet for losing lottery tickets.
