Could someone please measure the roof rail circumference?

I'm gathering bits and pieces while waiting for my 4Runner to arrive. I want to wrap the roof rail with black 3M film to match the end caps, and would like to know the measurement around the rail. Could someone please measure theirs and let me know? The material I found is 60" long, and 12" wide, so I want to know if I can wrap both rails with one 12" piece split lengthwise.

There's a channel along the inside of the rails that will make wrapping it a little difficult (just my opinion). You might want to think about Plasti-Dip.

I'll take a tape out & measure mine for you tomorrow unless someone beats me to it.

Thank you. The channel might work out fine, as it would make a good start/stop point for the wrap. I have two sets of Thule crossbars that I'll use, so I won't be needing the slot.

Thank you! Whew! That's not a lot to spare. That only gives me 1/2" to play with on each piece.

Some reviews of the material I found on Amazon said the vendor's cut wasn't straight and required some truing. For $17 for 60"X12", I might try my hand at PlastiDip. I've never done that before, but if I was going to remove the rails to wrap them, it would require no masking for PlastiDip.

Well, I found out this morning that my new 4Runner is going to be another week...

So I'm trying to figure if my Thule cross bars are going to work with my basket and kayak racks, and want to order new crossbars if they're not.

Could someone please measure the distance from the outside to outside of the stock roof rails on a current style roof rail? Outside to outside plus my kayak mounts will let me know what size I need.

I didn't find the dimension I was after, but I found a better answer. The Thule 450 clamps I have with the 50" crossbars have about 1" between the outside of the clamps and the inside edge of the caps. That means the 58" bars I already have will have about 5" out there, which should be enough. So I shouldn't have to get the 65" or 72" bars.

Just to clarify. I tried to do it myself after watching a youtube video and was able to determine that that vinyl wrap is one of the many skills I do not have. I called a friend whose neighbor does vinyl wraps for a living. He took what I had left from the two rolls and did it for me. He didn't think I was going to have enough so I ordered a third roll. If anyone wants the third roll that he didn't use send me a pm and its yours.

Thanks, that's starting to make me think I'll need the 65" after all. I think instead of trying to get parts here before hand, I'd better wait and just try it.

Here's the 58" on my Outback, with the two Thule Hull-A-Port Pro kayak racks mounted just inboard of the 450 rail clamps. Then I have two Yakima bike racks out at the ends of the bars. The Outback rails are about 34" apart, if I recall correctly.

I'm hoping to spread the kayak racks to the extreme ends of the bars and then squeeze my Yakima LoadWarrior basket between. I'm beginning to that's gonna work, though, no matter what the 4Runner rail spacing is. I'm trying to put 10 pounds in a 5 pound sack...

It looks like this might work with my existing bits, after all. I just pulled the rack configuration with the kayak racks and bike racks out of the barn to measure. It is on the 58" crossbar set (the basket/awning LED bar are on a set of 50" crossbars.)

The current spacing between the inside of the folded Hull-A-Port Pro kayak racks is 8.5", and the distance from the outside of the kayak rack clamp to the inside of the crossbar end cap is 16.5". That means I should be able to get the spacing between the folded kayak racks up to 41.5". The Yakima LoadWarrior is 39" wide. With the 4Runner rails somewhere in the 40-43" spacing, things should fit fine.

I currently have my ARB 2500 awning attached to the side of the LoadWarrior using FourTreks clamps, but I'll have to wait to see if that's gonna work with the folded Hull-A-Port racks. It wouldn't be able to open with a kayak on, though. I might have to use the RhinoRack Foxwing awning mount I currently use with the kayak/bike configuration.

I'm just sorta talking to myself here confirming measurements, but this might help someone down the road. I'll post photos in this thread when I get the 4Runner and get things mounted.
