Create Your Own 5th Gen

First of all, fix the freaking seats! For paying 30 thousand dollars for it that is the least they could do!! Especially the back middle seat; unless you are under 5 feet, your head will nearly touch the roof! For such a great car, its a shame that the seats make it feel smaller and cheaper.

More power would be great, but I have no complaints with my current v8; you should see they look on peoples faces when they get smoked by a 4500 pound vehicle :yesyes:

By the time I save up for another new car, the 6th gen will be out (knock on wood). So actually I will be a little envious of the 5th gen if it is better.

*****Oh yeah one more thing, I would like it if the 5th gens had a bit more lift to them. Kind of like an H3's or something. I know this would probably cause hell for handling and wind-noise, but to me it would still be nice.

A little more head room.

Improved seat support.

Open all doors with "one freaking click" on the remote.

Keep roll down rear window.

4x4 all the time.

5.7 V8 W/ 6sp

Better HVAC controls

More headroom with sunroof

Lighted window switches

Ability to shift into 2WD with V8

Ok...my turn now

1. Better stereo system with bluetooth , satelite radio and Ipod/mp3 interface for the base model.
2. Sunroof standard for all models. (with no sunroof choice)..
3. More comfortable front seats and back seat leg room
4. Steering wheel controlers for all models.
5. 18" wheels for all models , beeffier tires, and a little more ground clearance
6. Led tail lights and change the color of dashboard lightning for all models
7. Better center console cup holders and more moderns AC controls

To get beefier tires...jumping up to 18" wheels on all models doesn't make sense. You need a smaller rim to get a beefier tire! I would say a range between 16-18" max would be great, depending on how off-road worthy you want your truck to be.

Thanks for the observation but when I said beefier tires I am not talking about those huge tires I just didn't explain my self correctly...
My tires.... I got them new and it seems like they always get low pressure I even had a flat tire on an almost new one when I first got my 4runner...I think I should have said "better stock tires".

I just had this thought...
What would be really cool is give the 4runner the same customizing options as the Scions. Cause personally, I like my 3rd gen SR5 cause its pretty simple, I dont really care about all the convenient but unnecessary gadgets. You can keep all the offroad assist systems, it basicly removes the possibilty for driver error, but I think thats the best part. But thats not what the majority of 4runner buyers use they're them for, so giving it as much customizing options as a scion, everyones happy, right?

Take the FJ Cruiser and make it a 4 door with a larger cargo area. Add a DIESEL and hybrid option. Do not offer leather and all the other fluff that is for a Cadilac. Keep it a nitch vehicle for the adventure crowd instead just another suburban SUV. Maybe only offer an AM radio too keep away the urban children.

"my ideal 5th gen that'll never happen"

- same looks as the 4th Gen.
I LOVE my 4th Gen! I think it stands out nicely when parked next to an Explorer or Trail Blazer, etc. Looks more rugged AND classy.

- light up window switches AND door locks on all of the doors!
ugh what a pain it is sometimes to not be able to see! Hey Toyota guys ::SLAP:: that's for making me feel around for the freakin' switches all the time!

- be able to auto open and close for ALL windows
Add in sensors on all windows (like the Hondas) so that they don't keep going up if something is in the way to help prevent injuries. My '06 civic I had before my '08 4Runner had this and it was a sweet! I actually used to try to get it to cut my arm off haha I do dumb things!

- power folding side mirrors ..and an auto-dim would be a sweet option as well
I manually fold mine in when I park. I'm over cautious with my baby!

- reclining 2nd row/rear seats
Yeah, you know what I'm talkin' about! ;)

- better standard audio system choices
stock = crap! $34,000 truck w/junk radio and speakers. ugh. bas****s!

- be able to roll the rear window back UP with the remote - and have a sensor on it so it doesn't cut your head or limb off, again, like the Honda windows have.

- under body full skid plate option - TRD package

- better fuel economy
Come on now! Get it up in the mid/high 20's when in 2wd anyways! Maybe have one of those engines where it shuts down cylinders or whatever to gain mpg *shrugs* I'm no engine tech head... but yeah... it'd be nice to get the low end to at least 20mpg city hmm 25/20?

- a functional hoodscoop option :biggrin2:
OH YEAH! (on second thought screw that fuel economy haha)

- standard dual exhaust
Looks more tough.

- a light that tells me when my windshield wiper fluid is low!
I hate when it runs out. It's always a surprise and it happens at the WORST times!

- lose the dunflops and give me some real tires!
BFGs!

- 10 way power seating and 8 way for the front passenger.
For 34,000 for my Sport model, I feel it should come with these options!

- Liquid cooled and heated seats would be a nice option

- ambient lighting would be a nice touch as well!

-rear view camera that becomes viewable in the corner of the rearview mirror when backing up.. or have a spot for it on the dash somewhere (seperate from the optional navigation)

In general... more customization options, like the Scion's, which someone has previously mentioned.

I don't mind the interior orange lighting, but a lot of people do. Why not make it a customizable option? or feature that's easy to upgrade with plug in bulbs vs having to soldier l.e.d.'s in. They're only bulbs, right?

If Toyota ever does ALL of the above. I'd be in heaven!

1) Get rid of the ugly azzed tail lights.
2) Change the "Tundra want-to-be" head lights to something more sporty.
3) Fire the drunk designer of tail lights.
4) Get rid of the ugly azzed tail lights.

Here's my '10 wish list:
*TRD off road package available with every trim level
*light all the switches!!!
*manual 4x4 lever
*manual tranny option
*rear locker option, maybe include it with above TRD package
*real A/T tire options, no standard
*factory remote start with confirmation on the key fob
*HID headlights
*all lights LED
*less plastic
*reliabillity,reliabillity,reliabillity!!!
*standard heated mirrors across the board
*better sound system
*keep it simple and we will keep buying!

^+1

AND:

Take out ALL of the carpeting through out vehicle and make the floor "waterproof" for easier cleaning (maybe something like the floor of the Honda Element). Dont worry Husky Liners, I will still use your product!

-A higher roofline (more headroom and better view out)
-A diesel engine
-Full time 4WD
-Locking Rear diff
-KDSS, Crawl control, MTSC, etc.
-Leather seating with automatic presets

-I guess I basically want a LC Prado Diesel; but I'd like the roll-down rear window and lift gate like the 4Runner.

I'll slightly twist this. Using the Toyota parts bin, here is my ideal T4R.

Exterior:
- trail edition bumpers, fenders, rockers, headlights, and taillights
- SR5/Limited mirrors and door handles
- iceberg color
- "TOYOTA" grille
- 2008 FJ Cruiser TT wheels (black, red TRD logo) and tires
- No antenna
- TE roof rack

Interior:
- Black leather seats from SR5/Limited, heated
- Leather wrapped steering wheel and shift knob Limited
- Black lower instrument panel, console, and door cards from Limited
- Limited push button start and gauges
- Sliding rear tray
- Moonroof

Mechanical:
- 1GR-FE
- 6AT with part time 4WD but also have torson diff (2WD, 4WD, 4WD (locked), 4WD Lo (locked))
- locking rear diff
- KDSS
- Crawl control, DAC, ATrac, etc

Gadgets:
- Bluetooth music streaming with non-nav touch screen (maybe the new Toyota audio system that is coming out on the Prius V)

The Trail Edition is just about perfect IMO. Here's what I would change though:
-A/T tires from the factory
-offer Navigation as an option (we can't get it up here in Canada!)
-have an optional leather package that adds heated leather seats and a leather steering wheel. Just because it's an off-road edition doesn't mean that we don't also want it to be a LITTLE luxurious
-memory seat function
-auto headlights

I am working on fixing point 1 and 3 myself. Everything else I can live without! But would be nice to have from the factory.

Back to the future! You guys realize this is a pre-5th gen thread from 2009?

Pretty interesting how many of the features wanted by 4th gen owners are on the 5th.

I'd probably trade for a 2012 if the SR5 stereo had a new display. Other than than I'd like the radio antenna in the glass again, auto climate control, but those not deal breakers for me. Got 5K miles and very happy so far.

i love it the way it but i would add

1.skid plates and rock rails
2.rubber floor
3.4cyl diesel
4.two sun ruffes like a land rover
5.lockers frunt and back for the sr5

i like the te but no 3rd row and lether
