For a while now I've wanted to make the startup chime customizable instead of the annoying toyota ding noise. I did a lot of research and found a way to accomplish this. For now when the key turns on it plays the startup chime once. It will not play again until the key is cycled. In the process I also removed the toyota dinger from the instrument cluster.
Here is a picture of the module I built. It runs off of 12 volts which is reduced to 5 for the logic board. This logic board connects to my computer via usb and I can load any mp3 file thats below 4 mb onto it. I specifically wired mine into my speaker amp so that the sound would play through the speakers.
The module itself tucks up under the dash until I want to connect to it to change the sound file. The logic board has a potentiometer to where I can adjust its gain for the output. this was needed as otherwise the output would be way too much for the signal going to the amp.
here is a video of it in action.
