Dash switch lighting problem

Was trying to install some of those Air On Board switches from a group buy a while back with and tie them into the dash lights.

I worked out which wires were which for the lights in the switches (looks like blue positive, black ground) and I tried to hook them up to my wiper heater switch wires for illumination (green for positive, grey for ground). This worked fine for a second but then when I toggled one of the switches it blew out the fuse. Not a problem, replaced #2 fuse under the dash with a new fuse, disconnected the new switches, and tried to turn on the lights again. Now I can get all the other lights to come on (center console, dash lights) but not the lights for those switches on the panel. Can anyone help? I have since pulled out the new wiring but still no change

Actually the lights that still come on are the speedometer and things and those in the shifter area. The ones by the left side and the AC area are off. The fuse is fine and when I pull it the shifter area lights go out so I must have caused a problem somewhere on those lights on the dash. Any suggestions?

My voltmeter shows there's still 12v on the grey wire so I must have messed something up with that variable ground
