Daytime Running Lights question

Greetings,

I'm the proud new owner of a 2010 Limited & I really enjoy this site. I'm trying to figure out the daytime running lights without much progress. I've been through the manual repeatedly & it appears that if you set the headlights to automatically turn on, you get the daytime running lights on at all times as well. If you turn the daytime running lights off, you have to manually turn the headlights on & off. Is this simply a Toyota quirk or am I missing something obvious?

Yep , that's the way they work on the Limiteds and what's also strange is they are yellow and serve as the turn signals in the front too.

That's right. My suggestion to you is turn your fog light switch to on, and turn your headlight switch to auto so you can set it and forget it! When setup like this your DRLs will be on all time time until your daylight sensor turns on your headlights automatically (at which point your DRLs turn off automatically). Both DRLs and headlights automatically turn off 30 seconds to 1 minute after engine shutoff. Set it and forget it :trophy:

Wow. I love this truck but that is a really lame setup.

At least the Limited has a sensor. Trail Editions have no sensor, but my $18,000 Matrix had sensors. Go figure!:wtf:

i agree....my 1998 Pontiac Grand Prix had the sensor too...about a $22k vehicle back then.

My 1998 gmc Jimmy had a headlight sensor, 12 yrs later mY 2010 toyota 4runner don't...GO FIGURE!!!

when your not used to doing for the past 12 years...its seem to be a 'burden' now to me....lol

one thing you can do...is ALWAYS leave the headlights on..if you want....since they shut off automatically...you can 'set it and forget it'....i dont chose to do that...but, its an option.

while on this subject...another thing my 1998 had...that the SR5 does not...is an indicator for the windshield washer fluid level ???..wow

(i think the user manual says the Canada version has it..for some reason)

im in a Winter climate...and if you run out of fluid at the Wrong time...it could be bad/dangerous
