I've decided on a Limited. Anyone work with any dealers you liked in the Denver (or in the region)?

I have very very low tolerance for dealer nonsense so a referall may help.

Thanks!

wherever you go, don't go to Liberty Toyota in the springs. They completely screwed me over when I bought my 4runner and their customer service sucks. good luck

Thanks. I have found almost all dealers (any make) down there in the Springs to be very shady...it's weird. A few years ago actually had a guy try to trap me in a parking structure where they store cars while they hammered to close...I couldn't believe it. And I am not exactly a guy you'd look at and think "pushover"...it's was truly bizarre (and a very bad move on that guy's part).

What color and any options you looking for?

Mountain State Toyota...

There friendly over there but nothing special. I HATE dealers with a passion, they are the worst. I wish you luck and don't let them talk you into anything! Next time I go to a dealer to purchase a vehicle, I am going to bring a "lawyer" with me. That should stop there thievery nonsense they try portray EVERY TIME!

Sorry.... Good Luck.... Cant wait to see some pictures!

I hate buying cars and I hate dealing with salesmen. That being said, I had a fantastic experience with a particular salesman recently when I bought my Trail Edition. I'll pm you his name and number and if you decide to call him then that's great, it not, no worries. He is located in Ft Collins

I had a good experience with my salesman at Stapp Interstate Toyota (I-25 just north of Hwy 52).

Stay clear of Boulder Toyota, a bunch of a-holes.

SgnDen - I will second Stapp also. I find their service department a pleasure to deal with also. Plus Stapp gave me 10% off of all parts and labor as long as I own the 4Runner.

I got mine at Stevinson West in Golden. They are helpful, they let me come back in the garage and went item by item when I re-programmed to get rid of the seat-belt chime. The parts guy is really helpful out there too.

That's where I drove the various models. I really liked the guy who helped me (one of their internet sales managers)...he could tell right away that I probably knew more about thee things than he did. He was maybe even too quiet. Very nice guy with an extremely low-key manner.

Of course, these days any halfway decent salesperson in that business understand that they can't be pushy...so much intense competition and access to info makes it a tough business for sure. It's usually after you are talking numbers when things get squirrelly.

I need to do the deal almost all over email and phone as I travel a LOT...so as long as I can find someone I trust (or at least like a little) I will try to figure-out what the right price will be and just get it done.

Now, on to trying to see what a good deal will be. I had a dealer offer me $1,000 under invoice but wouldn't budge on all of the crap fees...or some version of that (no fees, $500 under, etc)...that was on a TE in December but I decided against it at the time. We'll see.

Anyway - Thanks!

I just bought my TE from Go Toyota on Arapahoe. PM me if you want my sales guy's contact info. I would recommend him.

The TE from Dec was likely a 2011 close out; I had looked at those as well. I dont think many TEs are going for $1k under invoice any more. Limiteds are easier to come by, so you'll probably get a better discount on those.

Car dealers

I do not understand why so many people have a bad purchasing experience. I have purchased 24 new vehicles in my lifetime so far. I do my research, go see what they have, make an offer and let them know that is my only offer. If they can not give me a quick yes or no, I am out the door. I have purchased two new cars in the past 9 months. I made a offer on each and they stated no problem, and I got a very good price on both. One was a 2011 4Runner and the other was a 2012 Lexus LS460AWD. I have also purchased over the internet. Maybe some of you go in looking to argue and complain. To me it is no different then any other purchase, such as a boat, lawn tractor. Yes they will accept offers at places like John Deere. Naturally, Sears is not going to change their price just because you make them an offer. From the time I walked in the door until the papers were signed was less than an hour. No, I did not finance. I know that can take some time. I have also walked out on quite a few deals. You are the purchaser. You should control the situation. If you let them get control of the situation, you will most likely lose. After all it is your money they are trying to get. Do not get all hung up on any one dealer. Just check out the dealer in advance by asking around to make sure they are reliable after the sale.

The dealer can not budge on the "Dealer Handling Fee" (D&H) in CO. What ever dollar amount they charge for the fee it must be the same on all car deals or they will get in trouble with the dealer board. Yes the fee is total profit no matter what they say. Each dealership determines what they want to charge. Simple as that.

I don't know why everyone gets their panties in a wad over buying at a dealership. You simply decide what you want, and what you'll pay. Make your offer. If they don't accept it leave.:hello: If every dealer in town tells you to pound sand you're probably offering too little. If its reasonable you'll come to terms somewhere. Yes its a game to some degree. They are there to make money and you can't buy a car over the phone. So best to show up in person but be prepared to walk. If you need financing goto your own bank ahead of time, get pre approved and ask the dealer to beat that rate. If they can't use your bank.

I've worked 3 different dealerships in my time and buying/selling cars isn't as hard as some make it out to be. Walk in prepared to buy and its easy.

Why do they often hassle people. Simple, once you leave statically you'll buy a vehicle in 72 hours. If your leaving, it most likely will not be with them. In my 6 years of selling cars I never pulled that BS. I watched my manager do it a number times but I would not. I was lucky to work in small towns and not a metro area like Denver. My clients had a lot further to drive to cross shop so I did not see the point of being a DB.

Don't get me wrong, I made plenty of money off some people, that was my job. Do your homework and you'll be fine.

If I were in Denver I'd start at Stevenson West. I don't really know anyone over there but our club, Rising Sun, holds its meetings there. I'm sure I could find someone to play ball.

Well you have bought 24 new vehicles in your life.... you have had a pretty good experience and taste on what to and not to avoid. This was my first experience buying a brand new car. I am by no means an easy target nor one to be gullible to extra fees or options... however this time they got me. I blame it down to pure excitement and wanting to walk out and drive my new baby. They do it for a living hence the sit down and that stupid ass question "what can I do to get you to take this vehicle home today" then they disappear for what seems like forever to only come back to disappear again (my experience) its a form of " they will be so tired of waiting the'll sign anything to get the hell out of here" sort of thing, again this was my experience. I also happened to catch my dealer out to which his response was " hey, we all need to feed our family" see thread: http://www.toyota-4runner.org/5th-gen-t4rs/99621-requesting-pinions-dealer-quote-2.html

Just be careful as its a shark tank in those places. Good advice to do as much research as possible however things almost ALWAYS change when you get there.

Good Luck!

This was my first experience buying a brand new car.

Now you know and your 2nd and future experiences should be much better. Remember, the danger comes from being unknowingly lied to. Once you know ever word out of their mouth is a lie you can deal with them on even terms.

Oh, another tip....if the salesman does not think you are the biggest a-hole on the planet by the end of the process, you are doing something wrong.

I've been looking at this dealer in Denver. They are about 3,500 cheaper on the TE than the guys locally. I can get free airfare so fuel is my only cost. They are called Mountain States Toyota. Any experience with them?

I don't have any vehicle purchasing experience with Stevinson, but I order all my parts from Derek. Best prices, most knowledgeable with shipping. Call Derek and ask him, tell you don't want any BS from the salesman and I bet Derek will be able to help.

I can tell you that they were pretty thorough following-up last year when I was close to buying a TE but dealers were still having a hard time coming-up with them even in this market at the time. Of course, very professional and nice on the fist phone call as you'd expect.

They are not a huge fancy dealer like others along the Front Range (Stevinson, etc)...not sure if that is good or bad thing. At the end of the day, I think it's as much about getting the right person to deal with at ANY dealer as anything...yeah, some dealer's management are worse than others and make it tough to do business regardless but in the final analysis, they will all take your money...as much of it as they can. Just business.
