Death by 1,000,00 clicks- Help! (Dash noise)

There's been a problem in my 07 SR5 that is driving me absolutely insane!! :frusty:

I've got this clicking noise, much like a mouse-click and it is ever-present & I cant take it anymore. (Bad relay? Electrical?)
I've taken apart the whole dash & I'm at a loss-

I've posted this here before about 9mos ago, and I've tried numerous times to pinpoint the noise. Just trying again-

Just a WAG but is the little shock on the passenger side of your glove box attached? When I was driving mine home for the first time, I heard a rattling noise from the dash and that little shock wasn't attached at the top. Can't hurt to check.

sorry that sounds annoying. it sounds like metal on metal like the radio cage and metal bracket are rattling. i would pull that center dash out and then take it for a drive to find it.

I get a similar sound when it gets hot out, the trim on the drivers door where it closes flush with the dash, rubs against the dash ever so slightly and makes a click sound as your drive and it shifts. Also sometimes the center storage tray thing under the hvac controls makes some noise.. if you touch either of them they stop most of the time.

I am ANAL about cab rattle! Your video is to small, need to see the whole front passenger area. Sounds like something tapping on glass. What is in your truck that is not from the factory, SAT, RADIO, VIDEO, anything?... Are your windshield wipers good?

I have the same noise as the OP. Mine sounds electro-mechanical and does it more when the A/C is first turned on. I was hoping to know what it is before I take it in to get the dashboard replaced.

Dont know what to do besides just taking the dash apart or selling it. Im on the verge of insanity.

Thx- its def not any of these. I can hear it RIGHT behind where the key or instrument panel is.

It's hard to tell from your video, but what I hear is most likely one of the HVAC servos...I believe there are 3 total in the 4th gen. When the noise is happening consistenly, just hit the "off" button on your HVAC. If the noise goes away, it's a servo. Now the fun is isolating which one.

Each servo runs $100-$125, IIRC. There are some write-ups of folks (Lexus & Toy) dismantling the servos and adjusting the internal electrical fingers that wear with use. Once their worn enough that contact becomes intermittent, the controller can't read that servo's position and you get noise as the controller constantly shifts the servo trying to get a reading for the position it's looking for.

In my case, the temp blend servo is making noise in the summer under the right combination of ambient and cabin temp. I can adjust the cabin temp up/down to presumably get the blend door to swing to a more extreme position where the fingers are good and make the noise stop.

i had the same problem with my 06 sr5, it sounds like a rattling in the dash but mine was actually the heat shield for the cat on the driverside causing the noise. the bolt had rusted through and the shield vibrated sometimes but not all the time, took a stainless pipe clamp and it fixed the problem. not saying its your exact problem but its worth looking into.

Same here. Its one of the blend door actuators more than likely. The contacts get worn out in them, causing them to go on the fritz when they try to control the blend of hot and cold air at certain temperatures. There's another post on here somewhere detailing the repair and all.


Located inside the dash in the drivers and passengers footwells, right above the part where the console meets the firewall.
