Nothing really, just beware that if you plan on doing any water crossing, there is a bigger chance of having water get in your intake.
Have you tried a Marine Supply store? THat's where I found mine........

Even if you did screw back in...you'd still have to run a snorkel to run in deeeeep water.....I wouldn't drive in water deeper than the top of my bumper without a snorkel....but I'm a wuss! lol!

Are you saying there isn't a store near you that carries deckplates? Such as a pool supply store? I got mine from Lowe's because I liked the way it screwed on and had a gasket to seal it instead of using silicone and screws.

I just bought a 4" deck plate on amazon.com for $10. Bought plugs and wires there too so all the shipping was free.

It's only a 2" so it's not really all that big. I wanted to go that route first simply because of how well it will seal. I like it so far and if I want to open it up even more there's plenty of room to add another one. The best part to me is the front 'grated' plate could be interchanged with a flat plat so it could go back to completely sealed in seconds.

The concept of using a boat "deck plate" is so you can screw on the cover in a mater of seconds before a river crossing. This would need to be taped over or something.

True point. Remember that the deckplate hole is in the front of the airbox. Water is more likely to roll in or be forced in when you hit the water. The stock intake is from the side and facing rearward, also in the fender. This will help from keeping that rolling wave from coming in.

Make a simple heat shield to protect open deckplate.
I did the deckplate mod and then thought about the dirt that may enter the airbox. I saw belt dressing sling on the side of the airbox, battery and under the hood. In the bottom of the airbox I saw 2 small drain holes where dirt had been sucked in. I cut a piece of 1/2" foam and foil rigid insulation 10"x 18" and slid it between the airbox and engine belts. I attached it with a screw to the plastic airbox arm. Now the hot air and any dirt from the engine stay away from the new airbox intake hole.:bravo:

I called several local boat places and they had no idea what I was talking about? And I was too cheap to order one online and pay shipping that was almost as much as the deckplate. One afternoon, while perusing the aisles at Lowes, I spied a house dryer vent that had a four inch hole that looked like it might work. It did have three "flaps" that were supposed to open when the drier kicked on. Since the air would be going in rather than out, those were popped out and discarded. A quick coat or three of black spray paint and it was good to go. It had a "neck" that extended into the airbox, which was long enough to fold some window screen over and hose clamp down to keep the varmints out. I cannot seal it, but since I seldom ford anything deeper that an pothole, I should be OK. Sounds ghetto, I know.
