Deckplate Mod

I have contemplated doing the deckplate mod for a while now... My only concern is with dirt... It may be a stupid question but before I do it and screw something up I wanted to get you opinions. Will the Mod make it easier for mud and dirt to fly up into my filter and or my air unit? In other words, can I do this mod without worrying about smelling dirt all the time if I ended up going off roading and gathering some.

If you have concerns remember you can cover up the deckplate before heading offroad. Its what I do at least.

You keep the deckplate off when driving on the road and when you go offroading you put the plate on to keep the mud out/ dirt out.

that's actually something I've never considered. How hard was the install? All of the forum pictures I have found have been low quality and hard to really see what they're doing.

You drill a hole the size of the deckplate, glue it in with some sealant and thats it. Its really not that hard and when I had it I really saw no improvement with it. Honestly I think its one of the more useless mods.

Yes I have a CAI, but honestly unless you have a fi engine, your not going to see much of an improvement other than noise.

The reason the deckplate mod is even done is so you DONT get mud and water in your intake. The deckplate allows for you to reinstall the cover which puts the intake back to stock.

I have done the deckplate and silencers removal mods and probably added some HP and torque. What I have really noticed is it is just smoother and easier to accelerate through the range. I added a bug mesh screen to the deckplate and yes,water can get in with a high powered hose aimed a certain way. I live in a fairly dusty enviro and see minimal dust in there. The deckplate cover is velcroed to the front passenger side A pillar below the glove when I want to close the air box. I would do it again in a heart beat.

I put a piece of screen mesh over the hole, which has helped keep large debris out of the box.


Driving normally, I do notice my air filter gets dirtier, especially around the opening much faster than before, but it's not really a huge concern.


If going through deep mud or water, just plug the hole.

This was my first real mod and it was very easy. I also did the ISR and do feel with both that I have more power available at the pedal. It seems to shift smoother and get up and go a lil' easier. Essentially the same set up as a CAI but for much less money. Go for it!
