Deckplate mod

yeah the deckplate on does defeat the purpose..
but when im taking ppl around with me im gonna throw it on since id like to hear them talk.

I drove with it on and its a tiny tad louder then stock setup with a hiss..

with it off,, more pull then with deckplate alone and louder.

what I want to really do is find somebody who doesnt want their k&n fipk and do test between the two.

0-60 times, 1/8th and 1/4th times

then screw in deckplate and put back intake silencer in and do test with that as well.

that would be something to look over if anybody wants to buy a fipk..

This is why I can't understand how your engine is running good without this hose connected? Has it been at least 100 miles? Do you feel any sluggish or stalling in between shifts? For ex: Read this article:

Fuel injected engines also rely on intake vacuum to regulate the fuel pressure behind the injectors. Fuel delivery cannot be accurately metered unless a fairly constant pressure differential is maintained. So the fuel pressure regulator diaphragm is connected to a source of intake vacuum.
 
gotta remember most of the vaccuming is coming from the airbox itself.. not the silencer.

and most everybody ive talked to said its not even needed.

and no hesitation between shifts.

Right, but that hose was connected to the air box via the silencer. Now without it connected (somewhere, anywhere), where it is sensing the vacuum pressure being created by the intake system? IT ISNT IN YOUR CASE...which is what I am trying to figure out. Your engine should be stalling since now the FPR cannot even regulate the fuel since there is no vacuuming of air.

well, if he has the hose just hanging in his engine bay somewhere, it would be vaccuuming the air within the engine bay, which is probably at a higher pressure than what is in the intake, so it would be sending more fuel to the injectors. is that right?
 
its pulling in air somewhere... im assuming from the engine bay.

Im gonna get the hoses done right but for now im just checking it out.

yeah probablly thats the case... which would result in gayyyy mileage.

which now i really want to do it right since i dont wanna loose mpg.

Well, almost. The vacuuming of air is going on in the intake system itself. When you open your throttle wide open, you are causing a vacuum of air into the engine (hence the louder noise-all that air being sucked in)...that vacuum of air is happening inside your intake system. So now with that hose connected, it will get a feel of how much of that vacuumed air is happening and since it is connected to the FPR, it will then know how much fuel to send out in response to that...hence more power and no stalling.

So without his hose connected, you would think it would run sluggish.

I don't know. Someone help clarify this! I am soooo confused.

It's simply a little box that helps quiet the air intake stream, as well as the exhaust tone in doing so. By removing them, I gave the air intake a less turbulent pathway, subsequently improving horsepower; the same way a cold air intake works.

are there any of the silencers that i can remove with out have to mod anything or do they all have something connected or running through them that i have to mod?

im gonna go buy a tee and some hose

ill let you know the difference with it connected and not connected.

basically their is another hose you hook up to the tee and the rest of the fpr hose comes from that tee to the fpr.

with the small hose from the tee to the plenium


just need to print the pic of bobs isr and look closely to which hose i use.

NO! That is where I am confused. His picture doesn't make sense. WE have that nipple on the plenum. If you take a small piece of hose from that nipple to a tee, the end of the hose that was originally on the silencer will go on one end of the tee, now what goes on the other end? THIS IS WHERE I AM LOST!!!!!!!!!!!

yea same here im looking at the picture and not seeing any of those tubes running back to the intake system
 
figured it out

the 2000 4runner he was using had a hose from the plenium to something else

we dont have that on the 2001

so here is whats supposed to be done

the hose from the fpr goes to the plenium

thats it!!!

edit: I get it.. the intake manifold produces a lot of air from the throttle body so that air comes into the hose from the plenium nipple to the fpr.

Im not a real savvy guy on cars but correct me if im wrong plz!

AH!!! Genius sir!

That makes more sense. Makes you wonder why that nipple is there in the first place.

And yes, there should be a good amount of volumized air being created in there so that nipple serves a purpose.

on my '98, the nipple on the front of the plentum has a rubber cap on it, so it really doesn't do anything; it is just an accessory nipple for mods such as this! ;-) when the tee is connected, FPR goes on one end, rubber cap on the other.
