Deckplate mod

That's funny about the service sucking at Home Depot. I had the manager of the plumbing department helping me out, as well as another guy. They wanted to see pictures. They even got to know my name.

I work there. That might have had a bearing on the assistance I got.

I basically got a bunch of end caps that I thought would fit. Some were copper, some were ABS, and some were PVC. In Canada here, we dont use PVC like you do in the states for drains, so you'll be looking at a different stock than I was.

One piece I had to hit into the intake with a hammer, one was too loose. On the one that was too loose, I wrapped adhesive weather stripping around the cap, and made sure that I clamped it in there nice. It seems to have worked like a charm. I check them every now and again to make sure that the tape hasn't fallen off (or god forbid, get into the intake).

I guess it sounds ghetto, but that's why they call it a mod. If I wanted it to look supreme, I'd pay more and get a real cold air, but I'm cheap. Just keep using trial and error, and hopefully you can make something work.

When I go there I don't seem to know where anything really is and when I look for help I never see any workers availible, and when I find one they seem like they dont care about what I need or seem to look down on me as if I'm just some idiot looking for a 2-5/16" end cap.

I went to all three hardware stores in town and got a half dozen caps/plugs. I'm about to pull my hoopty into the garage and start this thing!

yea same here, i took out the EFI fuse and it works fine now, no problems, and i even get 1/3 better gas milage, normally it takes me 3/4 of a tank of gas to get to wilmington and now it took me less than 1/2 a tank.

For me its a groaty hollow sound around 2500 and 5000 RPMs, i love it how its silent if you want it to be too!

exactly. as long as im not over, say, 50% throttle it stays pretty much silent. it is DAYUMN loud at 4000+!!

I dont know if my gas mileage will help when I'm flooring it everywhere to hear the sound of the engine!

yep same here, i get horrible gas milage when i floor it to get that sound but when im just cruisin its better, its nice to have to show whenever you want

Go to any marine supply store and ask for a deckplate, they know what they are. It doesn't need to be brand specific.

what is the trueflow air filter going to do as apposed to a stock one from jiffylube?

stock air filter isnt going to do much at all.. trueflow would catch most everything that came its way.. like when I was going down a gravel access road to go off roading, i was behind other 4runs and my KN still let shiz in.. ridiculous.. stock air filter would have been crap

Can you see individual dust particals? Nope.

Can you see holes in the K&N filter if you hold it up to the light? Yep.

If the holes are bigger then the dust particals, then how does the filter stop the particals? IT Can't.

True flow, not the case.

what size? is this mod just for 4wd? also about the ISR, i saw pics and how to do it, but no parts list. how am i supposed to do it without knowing what i need?
since i don't do any off roading, will the stock filter be enough? or will i need that 50 dollar one? someone drop me a PM please with a materials list so that i know what i need. thank you. i'll have fun with this.

Do you have a dremel or rotary tool? If not, they aren't expensive and are very handy to have around the house/car. It would be a good investment. Won't make as clean of a cut as a hole saw but the lip of the deck plate will cover the rough edges as long as you don't get too sloppy.

don't have either. but i just bought a hole saw and arbor on ebay for $27. i guess i'll have to find some guys around here that want that mod to recoop the cash!:tongue::50cal::ballchain::fro:
