Deer verses 4Runner – 4Runner wins…………..sort of

Holy cow! That kind of stuff scares me, mainly because there's little you can do to prevent it, short of never, ever driving above 20mph.

Glad you're both ok, and hope you can get the 4Runner fixed.

Been looking at all options. Almost pulled the trigger on a Pilfreybuilt aluminum bumper (painted Blizzard Pearl) plus upgraded 2014 headlights, but really felt bumper wouldn't look correct with running boards & SR5 rockers and rear bumper. Don't get me wrong, I really love that bumper!

Unlike you (and I am jealous), I don't off road or camp, my use is more of a Toy Hauler & Mall Crawler.

Thanks Ray Dunakin! Literally only had a split second to remove foot from gas pedal and slam brake pedal before impact. The section of highway we were on was elevated from southbound side, meaning you could only see about 20 feet of grass of median strip before it dropped off, had no opportunity to see deer as we were approaching.

Fortunately after 41 years of driving this is my first deer strike (nock on wood), so I consider myself lucky.

UPDATE: Repair estimate is currently at $9,900.00, no frame damage, all replacement parts will be OEM. Disassembly will start next. Today will be going by body shop to check condition of LED high beams, DRL's, and fog lights. Replacement B&M trans cooler arriving tomorrow.

Minor upgrades are;

Trail Headlights
Trail Hood (can't wait to experience the glare!)
Also looking into Lightwerkz HID low beam retro system

Still considering upgrading from Morimoto LED fogs to Baja Designs Squadron Sport (wide cornering)
Will also be addressing "Diminished Value" from insurance company. With a Carfax report, value will drop roughly 15-20%. What I find crazy is NADA and Manheim value truck between $26K - $28K! I paid $32,900 5 1/2 years ago.........WOW!

Yikes. So glad y'all are OK. This is one of my biggest fears, and I've been lucky so far. A couple of years ago I had a large doe bolt out into my lane from the left side of the road. I swerved into the left lane to avoid her just as she decided to reverse course and go back the way she came. She hit ME, impacting the rear flank of my then Jeep GC, leaving only a minor scratch. Never stopped to check her condition. I'm always a bit more careful now when I see signs indicating deer activity along the road.

Good luck with all your repairs and upgrades. I hope the process goes smoothly and you're back in the saddle soon.

Replacing with stock SR5 bumper. The only planned change is I will be painting the chrome emblem insert black as opposed to chrome (one of my first mods was to paint with black plastic dip).

Will say, I'm amazed how well the plastic dip has held up. Sprayed four coats of black, then two coats of clear 5 years ago, there hasn't been any peeling or stone chips, even survived a deer hit!
 
Thats awesome. I "repaired" the deer damage to mine today and i think im going to add the c4fab lo pro bumper. And dip my emblems as well soon.

With the 10-13 front couldn't you just order the trail insert, I thought it was already black?

You an I both know you are going to look back and wish you'd gotten the aftermarket on the bumper. :lol:

I've looked at several parts break downs and they don't list that part separate, wish they did. If you have a part number, please share.

Agreed, at this point I just couldn't justify a plate bumper unless I made more changes i.e. removed running boards, rocker trim, and rear bumper, to install sliders & plate rear bumper. BUT, the only off road my truck has seen is a dirt parking lot to off load quads.
