Ah, the beauty of fresh snow. I usually take the Jeep, though I only like snow when it is fresh powder out there. Taking the 4R scared the bejeesus out of me on a steep uphill yesterday. I wasn't out too far and could have rolled backwards and turned around at a spot. Still, the power cut out, ATRAC started doing its thing, and it freaked me out. I eventually backed up slowly to a flat switchback and turned around there, Till I get time to do this mod, no more offroading in snow with the 4R. Stupid mall-crawler feature....

Lock the center diff... Also engaging 4lo helps. Use the non-mall crawling features. I can guarantee the 4Runner is better in the snow than your jeep is if you use it right.

did a test today 03 v8 4x4, pulled the connector ABOVE the one in the pictures with white and green. The one I pulled had RED BLACK WHITE.
It tripped the ATRAC VSC ABS lights and turned of those functions, and worked great.
Next I will cut the RED ground wire and splice a switch in line with it to interrupt the circuit. (apparently can be traced back to the kickpanel but its cole here and i need the mod to go ice driving tomorrow. )
OTRATTW are great switched, lots of options and fit in the OEM switch location. Very reasonably priced as well.

I just did the test also....worked as advertised.
Have you or anyone used the "OTRATTW" switches for this mod? I am about to order a few of them and want to confirm they will fit. They have quite a few options in the drop down menu. What will work for this mod...SPDT or DPTD or something else?
OTRATTW switches do fit, you just have to modify the opening slightly. I think they look good.

I did a slight variation to this last night! works flawlessly! I ended up using the Air On Board switches, they look/work great! stock looking switches for a little over $30 shipped. Great Mod!

I did this today, but I used the ugly, cheap, and easy way. I started by running my 2 long wires into the cab and wiring up a toggle switch.
Then I did the work under the hood. I cut the ground wire and used butt connectors to hook it up to the switch.
After some electrical tape and zip ties, it's done. Hides away behind the fuse panel cover and you never see it until you need it.
I actually thought I was going to pay someone to do this for me. Glad I didn't, it was super easy if you have some wire strippers. I just bought some wire, circle end connectors, a switch, and butt connectors.

As I sit here and roll my eyes at some of the repeat questions... i'll take my turn and ask a dumb question.
I have a 07 SR5, V8 4x4... so i'm always 4wd.
Has anyone done this mod to this vehicle?
Also i'm completely confused why people are cutting the red wire on the harness above the harness OP mentioned in his instructions... maybe someone can spell that out cause i'm not real smart either apparently lol.

Just unplug it first. If that gets you the desired results, wire in the switch. Once you flip the switch it acts like the harness is unplugged, you just don;t have to get out of the truck, pop the hood, and unplug it like I had to do while I was trying to get up a muddy hill on Sunday.

Finally somebody that gets it!! This is so easy and people make it so hard!! All you are doing is breaking the circuit, nothing fancy or high tech that involves $80 switches or special tools. This is the same exact way I did mine.

I still don't understand your way without cutting the wires. I don't know how to add those things you added into the harness. If I did, I would have done it your way, I'm sure it's cleaner than my way.

Was just fiddling around today on my 2007 V6 with this mod. The OP indicated that it disabled ABS. Have not done a panic stop to test that, but the ABS light is out on the dash. TRAC, VSC, and the VSC skid symbol are all lit.
Be nice to disable the parking light indicator. Have to look at the owners manual, but that brake warning may be for the whole brake system, not just parking brake warning.
Still not used to a foot brake actuated parking brake and leery of leaving it on with no indication. The solution is not disabling the nannies until underway of course.
Will probably wire it up with a relay network to stay on until power is switched off and then be reset when restarted.
Did not see it mentioned in the bazillion pages before this, but at least on the 2007, what you are doing is opening the low brake fluid switch indicator to the VSC ECU. I guess if the ECU sees low brake fluid, it will not use all the computer controlled braking wizards?

I'm sure most of you know, but in case you don't, this doesn't actually disable VSC. I've done it and it's definitely helpful for having fun with spinny tires, but it's not helpful for the throttle limiting that the VSC also does (i.e. that still happens). So it just simply/literally disables the VSC's ability to control the ABS. (Not sure if it also disables the ABS since I haven't tested that either.)
I'm not trying to be a buzzkill because like I said, you can still have no-traction fun with this mod no problem; just wanted to make sure that was known, because I've seen posts of people being frustrated with the VSC for cutting power when they for example execute a particularly exciting highway entry maneuver, which this probably won't solve fully for such situations.

Thanks for the info on the power cut. Wish I could turn that off.
