Disabling TSS

I want to run a slimline/lo-pro style front bumper. But aluminum. And very few companies offer aluminum. The ones who do only offer low bull bar options that interfere with TSS sensor on newer models.

WTF is TSS? Do I need it? Do I want it? Is it just for like... cruise control and whatnot? If so, can I just disable it? Unplug it? Get the dealer to disable it?

Technology gets in the way sometimes huh.

TSS is a suite of safety systems including automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, and adaptive radar cruise control. If you don’t want to use these features you can either just not activate them (radar cruise and lane departure warning) or disable them via the cluster menu system (automatic emergency braking etc).

Sweet. So if I get a bumper with a bull-bar that interferes with the sensor, I can just turn off the features and not worry about it?

If it is like the Tacoma/Tundra TSS systems, you'll have to disable it through the steering wheel every time you start the truck.

The last I had read on it (on those trucks at least), was that removal of all the components would lead to a warning light on the dash that could not be programmed out w/ Techstream

Hefty offers a hybrid bumper (Benshee) and options with and without bullbar.

Yeah but I'm looking for an aluminum bumper to save weight, not steel. I guess I'll just have to go steel and go for C4 or CBI.

I don't know about the other TSS features since i've left most of them on, but I turned off the lane departure warning the second I bought my 4runner Oct of 2019 and it has stayed off this entire time. I have not needed to go in and turn off the lane departure warning every time I have started the vehicle.

The Pre collision system can be placed on 3 different sensitivity levels. To turn it off completely, it does need to be turned off after every start up. 4lo automatically turns it off. The other safety features will stay off once turned off.
