You can drive without a pan hard no problem. To say you're going to crash a burn if you break yours is a huge stretch. However, if you're gonna replace the stock one, replace it correctly.

The rear end of the 3rd gen isn't exactly a 4 link. I mean, its not like the axle would fall off, but driving without a panhard bar would certainly put a new spin on driving "dynamics"

My rig is out in the lot, or else I'd check, but whats the opening width on our panhard bars? 1.5 inch or 2?

Then drill hole out to 1/2"

I'm about to replace the bushings on my SS bar until I finally find time to fab up proper brackets

I've done it before. I have heim uppers and lowers. Wasn't bad at all. Axle wasn't exactly straight, but it wasn't awful.
