Rear Seat MOLLE Gear holder
OK for a long time now I have wanted some sort of cargo holder that attached to my back seat allowing me to store items (and remove them) and still have full cargo area usage. I ended up ordering this POS
CARGO LINER SUV CARGOMATE. I now have been frantically looking for MOLLE Gear stuff because you can order just about anything you can think of for MOLLE Gear off of
Cheaper than dirt. I then found this
item but it is too expensive and not very practical for my idea. So I have decided to venture out on my own and make one.
Items needed: (These are just links to show materials, prices may vary)
1000D Cordura nylon
Milspec 17337 or 43668 nylon webbing
Industrial sewing machine or well built home machine
#69 bonded nylon thread or upholstery thread
#18/110 size sewing needles
Velcro hook and loop tape (if you want to Velcro a few items on like first aid kit, etc)
Now obviously each 4runner is going to have a different back seat dimension, I think the 4th gen. is around 57”. Plus if you want to put two separate pieces on per seat the sizing will be different.
Cut your Cordura fabric material, velcro and webbing to size. Lay everything out to double check your measurements. Now sew on your Velcro hook and loop tapes. MOLLE webbing is made from 1" webbing with 1" spaces between them. The webbing is sewn down every 1.5". For small MALICE clips use be three solid rows of 1" webbing. For large MALICE clips make two rows of webbing, a 1" space and then two more rows. If you just sew five solid rows of webbing it will work for either size
MALICE clip.
Now attaching it to your seat…With the current set up I have it has two little cheap cloth straps the come out in two separate locations that you just tie around your headrest bars. In the creators favor they actually do hold up the cargo holder with everything I have quite well. However, many options could be used: Velcro strips, snap strips, or plastic clasps that wrap around headrest poles, four long strips (two off of each side) that come out the side and have a
plastic clasp on it to hold it tight. I think I am going to go with this feature. It is quick release if need be, it is held against the seat tightly from the back and sides; thus no sagging forward from weight, and it would fit many different sized seats if I switch models.
