Do the 5th gen OEM bug deflectors work to deflect bugs off your windshield or just off your hood? OR do they not work at all and is just a piece of plastic on the front of your Runner?

Good question.....one I've never thought to ask. My wife is getting ready to drive from VA to CA next week and was thinking about getting one.

I ordered the AVS one from Amazon and it is supposed to be delivered today. I really hope it works, I have never had a windshield that was this effective at being a bug catcher. I will report back once installed.

I put them on to prevent chips to the hood. Have used them for years and they do not prevent bugs or even reduce bug strikes to the windshield IMO.

X2. I've had them on both 4Rs since day one and now they look naked to me without them on.

I only use mine (aftermarket AVS) for rock chip deflection. I don't really worry about the bugs it stops. With all the dumptrucks around NoVa, it's pretty much a guarantee you're getting some rocks headed your way.

So very true. I've got a ton of chips from the NoVA trucks.

the OEM bug deflectors work for me so far, look cool 2

I have the AVS. I have noticed a reduction in the number of dead bugs on the windshield, and I like the way it looks better than the Toyota one, although they are really similar. Obviously works well for hood chips too. Well worth the money.

I've had them on other trucks & they work well for deflecting bugs. One drawback is the tubulence they create also messes up the windshield washers. Not to the point of rendering them ineffective they just blow fluid all over the place.

Does the AVS BugDeflectorII have the same problem as the OEM with touching the paint? Which seems to be the favorite?
