I REALLY can't stand the thought of my work lately. I work at a Mercedes-Benz dealership in Newport Beach, CA. I've been in trouble once, and that was for sleeping in on a morning shift once by accident. That was last year.

Pros: Cheap service for my 2005 C230. Good deals on parts pretty much anywhere. Bodyshop hookup, free car washes, etc. Good schedule flexibility. My boss is totally awesome and I love the parts department that I work in during the week. I get to drive super cars, luxury cars, most cars that are worth hundreds of thousands of dollars, on a daily basis.

Cons: The sales department that I am forced to work with over the weekends: a-holes, a-holes, a-holes, and more a-holes. Full of crap, literally. This place is the breeding ground for corruption, attitude, and stress. Over the weekends, I am forced to sit by myself in the back of the dealership and deliver owners manuals to those who sell cars. It's just an easy money job. I'm treated like scum by those who don't know me personally by now, regardless of my respect towards them. There are some particular beings that I especially do not appreciate and would like to separate myself from.

I work 12 hour days at this wretched place, of which, I get an hour break. It seems that one hour is too long for the sales department to suffer without me, so I was dwindled down to 30 minutes. I never really cared, not until people started putting in calls for stuff when I'm on break. I often get into arguments and fights with salesmen because of their impatience. I usually can't even scarf down my subway sandwich in time before I have to return to work.

I've said it before and I will happily say it again: The majority of car salesmen are useless piles of crap that do not deserve to walk this earth. Most of them are failures who could not find a real career path. Absolute wastes of life.

While the cars/perks/parts guys are cool, finding a better job would be a blessing. This job was great when I was 17, but I'm getting older and I can't support myself on the wage that they pay me. I haven't been able to afford gas even, that's past my school tuition, books, car insurance, etc...

3 years at this location, not a single raise (I just recently asked, and was denied. I do much more than my job entitles.). I want to find a new job, but I am just worried about finding one that ends up being worse. This is the only job that I've been able to find that's comfortable with my school schedule and working around it.

I wish there was a cool off road or lift company around me. I'd change jobs in two seconds if it meant I got to talk trucks all day and deck out mine.

Do/Have you often feel/felt disrespected at work? What did you do about it? What do you think that I should do?

Thanks for reading my rant.

Get out while you can man. I have been there done that while working as a sales rep for sprint. Life is way too short to hate life for 12 hours a day. Good luck.

Stick it out til you finish school and then you will have a degree so you can tell the useless piles of crap to go blow themselves.
If they are working with you schedule that is rare so I say stick it out.

That sucks man, douches can ruin the best of jobs.

I say pull the manager aside and talk to him. Things like how you deserve more money for what all you do and put up with, you never get your mandated break, how you like the job but the saleman treat you like dirt. Demand changes.

Its because you work for Mercedes. The sales guys are gonna be stuck up douche bags just like the customers. They have to be to relate to the customers they are selling cars to. Rich people have no patience and think everything needs to be catered to them because they run the world because they have the money. I work for Volkswagen and our sales guys are really chill. Our company owns a Mercedes dealer as well and those guys are all impatient douche bags as well. We share a parking lot where they keep all the new cars with Mercedes and Nissan. And Mercedes has all their cars single parked and spaced out all over the place and our cars are double and triple parked where you have to move a couple cars to get one out. People with money just dont want to be waiting around because they can take their money to another dealer where they don't have to. It's all about catering to the customer.

Well, to be honest, a lot of the time the grass is not greener on the other side. There are d-bags at every job. My rule of thumb is 10% of the people am going to work with are idiots or jerk offs, so I expect it, and when I do run into them, you gotta brush them off.

If you do leave, don't burn your bridges, you need the open door if other things don't pan out, and you need a good reference.

No raise in three years is kinda crappy, but a lot of people are going through that too with the economy the way it is.

I have the pleasure of saying I absolutely love getting up in the morning to go to work. That being said I'm in a rare group of people.

That being said, it's not a life or death decision. Do what makes you happy because we don't have very much time on this earth so make it count while you're here.

Good luck.

I'd stay until ya found another job, possibly one that is better for ya, but even one that is stable enough to put enough gas and just do maintenance on your 3vz. I stayed on a job I hated years ago, and ended up getting fired because I didn't give a damn if the place burned to the ground. Ultimately, I was wasting my time.

In your post you have already made up your mind, crossed that bridge to leave. Happiness will avoid ya like the plague. And nothing, not even if the boss came to you with a bonus of gold bars, would sway your mind in the long, possibly even the short run. The real test will be when you get another job. Go ahead and ask the boss for a letter of recommendation after you give notice. Wait for their physical reaction to your news and I'll bet my 4runner it is the one you will expect.

Good luck.:thumb3:

x2. The right schedule makes a difference. Suck it up for your education sake. Remember, this will NOT hopefully be your lifelong job...this is just a bridge that you must cross to achieve a bigger goal.

Boy, that is A LOT of assumptions!! I won't even bother to comment on such ignorance....

I'm not trying to start a fight or am even mad at all. I'm just curious on what I said was ignorant or even an assumption. I'm sorry if you were some how offended because you are a Mercedes owner or something. I don't mean that all Mercedes owners or even all salesman are douche bags. There are exceptions. But our auto group also has a Porsche and an Audi dealership as well and lots of those guys are the same way. I didn't say anything different than what children of bodom said. And I hardly think any thing I said was an assumption. My main point was that money rules the world. And if you disagree with that then you are a little naive.

And you think that poor people or those who buy cheaper cars have less entitlement issues?

And yes, of course, the luxury brand salesmen will be as accomodating as possible because there is more profit margin...than someone who sells Kias. But, you should not confuse being accomodating with being douche bags....

A douche bag will always be a douche bag, no matter if he is selling Lambos or Kias...no matter if he is buying Lambos or Kias.

In this day and age of poor economy and high unemployment rate, if you got the shortend of the stick because a salesman wanted something right away for a high end customer, then you need to suck it up because it is for the good of the business that employs you. There are many people out there that wants your job. In other words, YOU need your job more than your job needs you...in most cases.

Trust me, most of the "douche bag" things that you get is because the other guy wants to keep his job. Sure, respect in the workplace is always needed...and things should be courteous. But, as budget gets tighter, you will be asked to do more (than before) with same pay.

Just my view...and thank goodness i have a job...everyday, i am thankful.

EDIT: i am NOT in a management position. However, i do see plenty of folks who think that the grass is "greener" on the other side...only to come begging back to their old job....

That it true. Douche bags will be douche bags. And people with less money will have some entitlement issues, but more so with people that have money. I think living in southern California shows that more than most other places. And I'm not confusing accommodating with being a douche bag, I know a douche bag when someone is being a douche bag other than just trying to do his job. And I was comparing our Volkswagen sales guys to other more expensive car sales guys and all our guys are pretty cool compared to the other ones which I think has to do with the mentality they have to have to sell cars to the customers they are dealing with because yeah I do think that people with money feel that they have more entitlement because that is how the corporate world has made people to be.

So, a Kia salesman must think you all are douche bags!! :D

You're generalizing too much IMO. So, it is the douche bag customers that make the salesmen douche bags?? Cause and effect here? You've been seeing too much of those reality shows with Paris or Kim K. And the feeling of entitlement after achieving some goal in life is somehow now an act of being a douche bag....

IMO, a douche bag is based on how one acts. And if such is the case, then it is based on one's personality, NOT one's self worth nor on which car one buys.

I've walked out of a job before. I was there for six months, hated every second. It was a crappy little family run auto parts manufacturing business and I was the production supervisor. My 'probationary period' ended and they called me in for a review. They liked my performance and offered me a salary position. I asked for a 20% raise which they refused, so I literally said 'Goodbye then.' and walked out the door. I felt like I was on ecstacy as I got in my car and drove away! It was the best thing I have ever done, job wise that is. I spent a few months unemployed and then landed an awesome job with a great company and never looked back.
I say quit if its that bad. Life's too short to be miserable for 12 hrs a day.

techno, when did this happen? Recently or a few years ago when the economy was still good??

What you described is horrid and there is no way I would work there. None, period, end of story.
You dont think enough about your self worth or you would not accept that. You are going to school to better yourself and you show respect to others, even the jerks you are writting about. Those 2 points tell me you are a good person worth much more than what you are putting up with.

Go flip burgers at Mickeys or deliver pizza.

If you dont respect yourself, others wont be able to respect you either.

Beleive in yourself and live.

Hang in there and finish your school if the work schedule fit with your school schedule.

BTW. I HATE, HATE the MB dealer that you work there. Is it the one on Jamboree with initial FJ? The salemen were such @SS#@#@$. I bought 3 MBs and none of them from there. I visited the place couple times but never a good experience for me.

Right now you're in school so there isn't a lot you can do. I'd say stick it out. And, if you didn't the gist from others, there are douche bags EVERYWHERE! No, really EVERYWHERE, Seriously, no place is safe!
Not getting a raise does suck, but my last employer gave everyone the option to take a 10% pay decrease or be the one that is laid off so others don't have to take a pay cut.
About 7 months ago, I left that company and started with a new one in a different industry. The benefits are great, but I work with people that literally make me want to smash their face into the ground and stomp on it. But, that's nothing new. I've only worked one place where I really liked everyone, a record store, and I'm not supporting a family on hourly wage.

In short, welcome to the real world. I don't mean to be harsh, but work almost always sucks, otherwise they'd call it fun. Put in your time and make the most of your free time. The best advice I can give you is throw money at your 401k and invest wisely so you can retire and do whatever you want sooner rather than later. Yes it will pro-long the wait for more mods, etc, but it will be worth it in the end.
