do newer rims fit gen 2?

Does any one know if there are show stoppers to installing late(est) rims onto a gen2?

I am looking into a set of 2016 16" takeoffs to put on a '95 runner.

Currently have the '95 OE rims, marked 15x7-JJ8 with offset 8.
Have aisin manual hubs which prevent using the center cap up front,
the new wheels have a slightly different cap but wont look nekkid without it.

Donor wheels would be off 2016,
backside shows 16x7J , with a stray number there, 23 or possibly 25.
I presume that might be the offset but its not specified.

If I'm right about the donor wheels offset, only issue is wheels move in a little over 1/2" and the static clearance is there.

Tires are have nearly the same basic dimensions
(old 31x10.5-15 vs. 265-70-16) so no worries there.

Does anyone know if the center bore changed?
Any issues with lug seat type?
Any other issues ?

Welcome comments on the change - the old 15s aren't bad but thought I'd give the mule new shoes while the takeoffs were plentiful. IF the truck hangs in there, probably intall some short ball joint spacers to get up to the 33-ish range ( 30.6" OD v. 31.7" OD) .

Any opinions on growing there on a 15" rim vs. a 16"rim ?

I believe all the wheels will bot on. If you are running a lift you may need wheel spacers to clear the upper control arms. Other then that i think you are ok. I had 3rd gen rims on mine and wanted to get the new TRD wheels but they dont make them wide for what i want.

I'm running 2013 FJ trail team wheels on my '87 with 1" spidertrax spacers. They cleared without the spacers (barely), but stability was greatly improved with them. You should be able to use the front center caps with the spacers on also, it creates a recess for the hub. I just pop mine off when needing to get to the manual hubs. Before these I ran my '08 Tacoma 16" wheels and spent some time with a dremel tool and made the front center caps fit, it just takes time and patience.

Hey BoatRacer, old thread but just in case you see it, can you clarify how it spacers helped with stability? I have a 94 that I'm putting FJ wheels on, trying to see if I can use them without the spacers, but I'm curious about your comment about stability..
