Do you care if your mods look cool?

I sometimes wonder what is so much "cool" about "cool" 4Runners, many look silly to me, but it suits me well.

If people who never offroad did not buy 4Rs, the rest of us would have had to pay much more for ours/be forced into LCs.

If people who never need mods did not buy stuff, the rest of us would be faced with less choice and higher prices.

So it works well for all of us, whether we care or not. Now, telling people that their rigs suck because of looks, that's another story. I am all for criticizing cheap/poor lifts and other functionally bad decisions to help people stay safe and avoid problems down the road, but looks?

I had been a Chevy and Datsun Man until this thing convinced Me of .........TOYOTA! superiority!!

Looks just like my first car. Mine was an '80. No lights or roll bars and it had a cover on the bed. Only 2WD. Bought it from my neighbor for $300. It was really beat up and had rust holes on the side and had 300k miles on it. I was 17 and it was all I could afford.

I’d say that I did a few things purely for looks, such as the TRD Pro grill and garnish. However other items were functional but managed to end up looking cool. Prinsu rack for added utility but also due to keeping the height low for parking garages and method 701 wheels which look great, but are also functional with the bead grip technology and RSG flat sliders that double as a better running board than my factory tube steps but also offer protection. All my money went right into suspension first.

Heh, right, I mean I have liked them since gen1 days, hilux too, mostly from a compact utilitarian point of view. In my humble opinion they have only gotten fuglier over the years, they really have apexed fugliness with the 5th gen, which makes me really curious what’s next.
I will say, thank god they don’t resemble the infinity QX :barf: so I guess I am a little fickle about looks

How will anyone know how yeet - worthy your mods are if any and all brand marketing/stickers are not shiny clean and prominently displayed? You can't be "lit" with the mall crawler crowd without an acceptable level of street cred via corporate brand marketing on your truck.

If we are here on this forum for form or function, chances are we have some degree of awareness for what is overly faux pas.

No one should criticize someone’s vehicle for appearing old and used. On the flip side, we shouldn’t assume a pristine or expensive rig won’t eventually see dirt; we all start somewhere with varying levels of care and resources.

With that said, I’d joke about a 4runner on 22” chrome spinners all day.

The best part is that it’s the same color as the rain gutters on the building behind it, so the gutter looks like some type of weird snorkel designed to look like a muzzle brake for artillery.

I said yes, but the truth is I'm in the middle. When it comes to products I care more about their functionality than their aesthetics. With that said, and as others have said, I don't want something like looks completely horrible either.

I think we can all admit we have one or two mods that are there for looks. Although over the last 5 yrs I’ve tried to stay in the camp of form follows function. Everything on my truck should have a purpose.

I do however get a kick out of all those IG “Overlanders”. With their shiny ceramic coated trucks laced with raptor lights and winchless winch bumpers with color matched shackles. Makes my half broken dented and scratched up truck look bad.

no, they dont HAVE to look cool...but it doesnt hurt if they do.

some mods are for kool-ness

some mods are because they make the rig that much more potent.

and as far as dents, scratches, & imperfections...since when isnt a cool scar a badge of honor on a 4runner?

i dont put an exhaust on my race bikes because they look cool...i put them on so the bike performs better.
would you put the coolest ATs on if you also read that they didnt grip a dayum thing while off roading??
