Do you folks do real offroading in financed 5th gens?

The reason I bought another 4Runner, specifically a TRD ORP, is so I can continue to go exploring off road. I will use it, but will try not to abuse it. I'll miss my old '97, but the new one is really nice.

You know it! That's the reason I sold my 2016 GMC Sierra, it was too wide for trails and not as fun off-roading. I figure I'll have it paid off well before I sell the thing, so why wait? If I total the thing, most of my wheeling is on forest service roads aka insurance technically covers it.

Yuppers, I backed into a tree that was in my blind spot and no on the camera. It gave god reason to get a LFD rear bumper which is sitting in the garage. I will remember the App trail forever because of that it was at the beginning of it in GA.

My 20 TRD OR is financed and it sees a fair amount of off road use, just this past weekend it got it's first major pinstripes on Tortolita Pass in AZ (which did hurt me to hear and see), but now that it's over with the next set of stripes won't be as big a deal, I bought this rig to explore and some paint damage is part of the game... I definitely don't intend on doing major rock crawling, but I'm not opposed to going through a boulder garden or two.

First thing i did was put on RSG Sliders & RCI full skids , protect your investment , first trip on Whipsaw Trail tore the passenger mirror off . The pinstripping buffs out. Second trip I ripped the plastic cover of the front bumper. I bought it to use it , but I dont get out often enough.

I’m skeptical about my State Farm plan covering off-roading on a private property—need to check but don’t want to call them and ask. I take it to Rausch Creek Offroad park frequently. Never really worried about it as I could learn to deal with dents and broken parts; however, I never really thought about the fact that my 2019 Pro could be easily totaled on a normal trail ride. My last trip on a Blue trail ride a guy in a wrangler 3 trucks behind me rolled his off a 8’ dropoff due to sun glare and potentially the edge of the trail collapsing. We weren’t sure. I had my driver side tires within 6” of the lip and made it (there was a tree on the pass side pinching down the trail). I think his rig was likely totaled; he was OK. This also opened my eyes to injuries that can happen to my passengers...my kids and friends. Kind of a scary. Still love off-roading but I definitely make sure everyone is always wearing seat belts and i’m now more aware of random the crap that can happen.

Yes, on most of the trails in Western Colorado between Ouray and Silverton. I don't do Black Bear or Poughkeepsie, but all the others are fair game. If you get stuck out in the middle of nowhere, it will coast a fortune for someone to come pull you out, i.e. the road side assistance that most insurance companies provide does not cover "off road" rescues, but other off road people are really good about helping others out of a jam. You do have to be careful -- seems every year someone rolls their rig off the narrow Ophir pass road.

I agree. I would keep it simple if it was a lease. Took my wife and son out to the local mountains and had a blast. Going with a group and good spotters is key for more difficult trails.

You may want to get some Goat Armor. Works pretty good. I used it on my last two trips to avoid the annoying pinstripes. Pricey but better than constantly polishing. If mine wasnt black id probably make due without it, but man do pinstripes pop on black!
