Dobinsons 5th Gen T4R Suspension options - lots of choices

I’m looking for a suspension set up. I’m really leaning towards a Bilstein 6113/5160 set up, at 2.5F with a wheelers t13 in the rear. However I’m not sure I really want to do UCA’s. What would you suggest I run if I wanted a 2/1 lift. I like the idea of 2.5 shocks and remote reservoirs in the rear because I like driving fast down bumpy roads. I will be installing a hybrid front bumper with winch, Rocksliders, and 60-80lbs of skid plates in the next few months. With that in mind, what would you suggest I run for a dobinson set up?

We can do a 2/1" setup with twin tube shocks for $790 plus shipping, and you don't have to touch any other parts. For the weight you mentioned, it would be C59-302, GS59-700, C59-599 and GS59-701.

Or if you want to run our MRR setup (Monotube Remote Reservoir) shocks, those are available by special order, starting at $1650 plus shipping for 4 coils and 4 MRR shocks, plus air freight and shipping.

If you do that first setup you mentioned, you can do it without UCA's, but of course it would help with the alignment if you're at 2.5" of front lift.

Air freight and shipping sounds pricey. With the first one, would upgrading the bump stops help at all? Also, I am influenced by the bilstien kits thinking this, but would the extended travel shocks help me at all?

Everyone tells me that the Timbren bump stops are very good, so you could run those if you're concerned about bottoming out. The best way to help from bottoming out is to run a higher spring rate and put more distance between the bump stops (aka lift).

Most shocks are extended travel anyway, including ours. Long travel are different though and wouldn't help you really unless you add more lift.

Hi mike. 2017 4 runner with kdss. no plans to add weight as far as bumpers. Maybe a roof rack and a rtt eventually. Can you give me options for a 2.5 without UCA and a 3 in with UCA? I have new 5100's in the box. Dont want it to ride like crap, but no one does right? Please advise. Any chance if i do get a set up you recommend i can get it shipped by next tue-thurs to so cal?

Are there many people running the MRR's shocks? Are they rebuildable? How long between rebuilds? I cant decided if I want to spend 2kish now on a remote set or 2.5" shocdks and call it good, or run the basic coils and shocks then upgrade later to a better coil over. So many options.

First samples of 2" have to be reworked, probably with a higher spring rate, so we're not close on the ETA of those, unfortunately.

Only the 1" non-HD replacements are here at this point.

Well crap, but I'm glad Dobinsons is putting the effort into this product, better late than wrong !

What spring rate was being tested and needs to be reviewed ? the 2 HD or the 2 non-HD ?

UCA's are coming, they've been on test trucks in Australia for a while. Will offer with uniball and with ball joint, for those who have a preference. Still not sure when we will have pricing and a release date on those.

Mike, do you have a four coil kit such as the 300/599 series (without struts and shocks)? Only added weight is third row seats and occasional light camping gear.

Hey Mike,

You've given me a quote before for a full kit but I've decided to change my plans. Currently I have Bilstein 5100's all around and I'm happy with them but I am looking for a 3/2" lift to clear the 285's I have on the way. Not planning on winch/bumpers.

I'm thinking of the following:
C59-448 front
C59-325 rear

What's the cost for both coils shipped to 06811? I'll obviously have to do UCA's but any specials if I order your new UCA's as well?

Finally, after the parts have been sitting in the garage for six months. Bilsteins set at zero. 302 and 505 coils. No pre or post measurements taken. Going to stuff some 285 KO2s with bronze FN Pro wheels.

Did you have to add new UCA’s or was the alignment okay? No swaying on highway?

Thanks Mike for all the help placing my order! As others here have said, your responsiveness and the information you provide is extremely helpful.

I am currently running Fat Bob's Garage adjustable coilovers built around Bilstein 5100s in the front, and Wheeler's t13 with 5100s in the rear. Total lift is about 2.5/1.5. I'm really excited to upgrade and am going a full 3/3 this time.

Fronts are C59-314 w/ GS59-574 shocks

Rears are the C59-675V w/ GS59-575 shocks.

My assumption is that with my roof rack, full size spare, and a load in the rear the variable rate shocks on the rear will sag just a little, probably giving me closer to 3/2.5

Anyone have this or a similar set up? I'm curious to see someone's 4runner with a true 3/3 lift installed. At most I should plan on about 1" of rake, no?

UCAs arrived today. Bump stock extensions just shipped.. About to order Dobinson's extended rear sway bar links too. Can't wait to get everything installed!

Looks great! This is the exact set up that I plan on doing. did you upgrade your UCA with this setup?

Just got this set up installed.
C59-302 / GS59-700
C59-325 / GS59-705

I also put Toytec .25 inch spacers on top of the struts in front, because I knew the back will be a bit more then 2.25 inches.

Front fenders are at 37 3/4 inches, back are 39 inches with about 150 lbs in the back, sitting on 275/70 KOs. The back springs still need to settle, and looks like they're not all the way set on the bottom notch, they are about 1 inch away (I didn't do the install). I'll probably get that fixed, I was hoping for around .5-.75 inch rake, but looks good anyway.

I did not do UCA. Went with 2.5 inch instead of 3 inch to avoid having to do the UCA. Alignment came out ok, camber is a bit off but from what i was told camber doesn't affect tire wear so I'm ok with it.
