Dobinsons 5th Gen T4R Suspension options - from Exit Offroad

2016 trail w kdss
300/700 front
599/705 rear
Should be 1.75”-2” front and 1” rear

Got the suspension on today and have some questions. Here’s my before and after measurements. They were taken after only driving like 10 miles but they still seem really odd and wanted to know if anyone could spot the problem. I also did dirt king uca’s, have rear air bag helpers, and only the passenger rear spacer for KDSS per mikes suggestion.

Pre lift
DF 19.25”
DR 21.5”
PF 19”
PR 21.5”

After lift
DF 20.5” +1.25”
DR 23 1/8” +1 5/8”
PF 20 7/8” +1 7/8”
PR 23 5/8” +2 1/8“

Looks like to me maybe I should take out the rear spacer and maybe that front left would come up a bit but less than 1” lift is concerning there. Front right looks right. But the entire rear is wayyy higher up than it should be.

I had the KDSS valves open, and had a ratchet strap around both KDSS pistons to keep them from moving at all actually. I did disconnect the rear sway bar from the axle(not where the kdss piston attaches but at the axle), and had the Panhard bar off. I torqued the sway bar, panhard bar, and bottom shock mounts with the vehicle on the ground. And in the front did the bottom shock mounts and uca chassis long bolt on the ground as well. I also gave the vehicle a shake back and forth with the kdss valves open on the ground then tightened them up.

Any ideas??? Thanks.

I have almost the exact setup though yours looks way high in the rear. Mine is just an inch higher on the pass side. (Pics are a page or two back, Dobs cont arms and no bags) I’ll be pulling the spacer next weekend. Rear arms too if they arrive by then. I’ll post what happens.

Thanks. Taking the rear spacer out helped but the rear is still at 2” lift and the front is still under 2”

Here’s how she sits now but it’s not perfectly level
....or not because I can’t get the file under the super small file size requirements

A few pages back a guy may have gotten mislabeled springs. You might want to check that and if they are seated correctly.

Any plans for a Black Friday or holiday sale?

I'm trying to do my research and look through this thread to see what I need exactly.
Im looking at 3" front 2" back with this setup to lift and level it out.
302/574 or 314/700 for the fronts
327/701 for the rear

I currently have no extra weight but I have a rear hitch cargo carrier that we use as well as I am looking at an aftermarket roof rack to be able to haul some more.
For the front I may get a low pro bumper but no winch.

I do not plan to go offroad. It is mostly for camping with the family and some occasional fire roads. Nothing extreme.

Thanks in advance!

If I was you I would go with the 302/574 fronts (same lift, better for down travel I believe) and only 325 rear coils. I've got 725's on a very similar setup (only difference is 725's have built in offset for KDSS) and I'm sitting about 2.25" in the rear.

The 327's will be a stiffer ride and unless you are towing a TON of weight or have a lot of constant load, the 325's should more than suffice. I've had the truck loaded to the gills plenty of times with 350-450 lbs, and noticed no decrease in drive-ability, with less than 0.75" sag (truck was close to level fully loaded).

Yes, we do a sale every year.

302/574 would be ideal for when you add the front bumper. You'll get 3.25" or so with that setup empty, so UCA's are definitely needed too.

If the hitch carrier is loaded with heavy stuff, then it will add a lot of leverage to the rear suspension. And for the roof rack, it all depends how much weight you plan to keep up there all the time. 325's generally suffice, but it all depends on the added weight.

Cool! Yes, I was looking at JBA UCA's.
Hmm another setup maybe better to get just 3" in the front empty? Im still on the fence about a lo pro bumper.
What about a diff drop kit or any of the other stuff? Do I really need anything else besides the UCA's?

You can use the C59-300 with the GS59-574 for ~3", or the C59-314 with GS59-700 for 3".

Whenever the GS59-574 are used with aftermarket UCA's, a diff drop kit should be added because the CV's bind at full down travel without it. You don't need a diff drop kit with the GS59-700's, although at 3" of lift, it helps reduce the CV angle and helps the life of them and the boots.

Any benefits one way or the other with the two options? I'll probably get the drop kit just to be safe anyways.

No, not really. The 574 struts have more travel, so you get more articulation, but it's not a whole lot, and you'd never notice it if you don't go offroad often and lift tires off the ground.

Also looking for advice 2021 TRD Premium with KDSS. I have a trailer with 300+ lbs of tongue weight. Down the road I will be adding a dual swing out bumper and bit of gear. I am not looking foe a tall lift. Thinking 1.75” in front and whatever in the back that either keeps the rake or levels it. I don’t have a strong preference either way with leveling. Tire size will be 275/70/17

Thoughts on this setup?

Sure, that setup would work as long as you have all that rear weight on there. It will be very firm and taller until that rear bumper is added and may be overkill. The 327 rear coils could be more ideal.

You wouldn't use the IMS59-50705 with a heavy rear end because the shocks would be working overtime with all the weight on them. The IMS59-50701 is what should be used with any of the constant weight rear coils.

If you order on my site, you can use the coupon code in my signature to get a discount for being in my thread here on this forum.

After going back and forth deciding between UCA's happy to say I went with Dobinsons UCA's. I had an appointment at Stellar Built in Sacramento for a bmc and saw the UCA display sitting in the front counter. I was going to upgrade from the 265's soon and there was a three week back order at the time and they were in stock and decided to pull the trigger right then and there. I was already getting suspension work done as well so timing couldn't have been better. They feel great and can't wait for some off roading.

Mike, I have been told that 5th gens do not need a diff drop and I have been told that it does. I have also been told that a diff drop will help with cvs but it will cause damage to the diff in 5th gens specifically. I had one but my installer suggested against it.
Would you recommend one with 302/505 with ucas?

With the longest travel struts that Dobinsons makes, the GS59-574 and IMS/MRA versions, the CV'S WILL bind at full extension without a diff drop kit AND with using aftermarket UCA's. 5100s and other shorter struts don't have this problem because they don't have as much droop.

Damaging CV'S by using a diff drop? I have no idea why anyone would say that. They can share the facts and evidence if that's the case. I've been running a diff drop on my 5th gen for almost 4 years and I haven't busted anything yet...
