Dobinsons Suspension - 4th Gen Options

I am going to replace the suspension on my T4R and have narrowed it down to 2 variants...i think.
A little history first though.
Stock 2007 SR5 v6 4wd approx 130k on, as far as I know, original suspension.
I actually have a passenger side lean, not sure why.
I want to do a touch more than just leveling the front to rear.
Perhaps 300 coils frt and 505 or 599 rear coils. Always have a tool bag, big backpack style that is FULL, ropes and rigging gear and jumper cables (50 to 70 lbs max).
Dobinsons shocks and struts pre-assembled sounds nice and easy but how to correct for lean. Do you put spacers front and rear drivers side.
Bilsteins 5100's with Dobinsons coils. Settings on frt driver side Bilstein?
Of course cost is an issue and I figure either option will be roughly the same once the Bilsteins are assembled by others.
Thanks in advance.
My set up with the 300 and 599 spring combo gave me about an inch of rake. I would imagine the 505 springs would give you around 3/4" more rake which could assist in carrying weight.
My front end ended up level left to right but my rear has always leaned to the left. I used an OME 10mm rear trim spacer. It helped but still has about 3/8" difference in the rear. They also make lean spacers for the front as well. One type goes on top of the spring and strut combo and another goes on the bottom.
Check into the no spring compressor install method if you want to save a little money there. That's how I installed these springs with new KYB top hats and bushings. I also installed my previous ones and also my dads 5100's on his 2nd gen Tacoma this way.

I finally got around to finishing up my Dobinsons suspension swap. I did the rear end about three weeks ago and seeing the 4Runner is trapped in the garage by scaffolding (upgrading the house to stucco), and I swapped the front this morning. My set-up is 3" front and 3" rear and I have SPC UCAs. I'm trying to figure out what I should set the UCAs at as far as caster goes. They were at the "zero" setting which in +2* with ok alignment numbers (3.2* driver and 2.7* passenger) and I bumped them up to +3.75* thinking that would move my caster angle to the high side of the spec. My goal is to get the 285's as far from the body mount as possible and I've heard that higher caster can do that. Any suggestions?

Thanks,
~Doozi

Dobinsons struts have fixed coil seats, so you can't use an OME-style trim spacer on them. You would have to use one that goes on top of the strut mount, between the strut mount and the body mount that the 3 studs go into. I believe Toytec sells a 5mm spacer for that purpose.

But we have found that offset height rear coils, or even height coils with a trim spacer in the rear, will level the vehicle out.

Here's something else the 4th gen guys might prefer.
C59-505 - Stock rear end load, 405/405mm, 17mm wire, 220LB
C59-723 - Stock rear end, offset height coils for KDSS leveling. 420/405mm, 17mm wire, 228LB

The C59-723 is essentially the same as the 505 coils, but with one being 15mm taller, which is like having a spacer on top. And with only 8 LB more spring rate, that wouldn't even be noticed.

We don't have (for some strange reason) spacers for the 4th Gen coils, but we do have these offset height ones.

There's also the 725 and 727 version of the 325 and 327 coils.

For 5100 front struts, you can set one 1 clip higher to offset the lean.

. . . . .
C59-327 - 200-400LB heavy rear load weight, 2" lift. 410/410mm, 18mm wire, 271LB
C59-329 - 600-800LB super ridiculous heavy rear load weight, 2" lift. 410/410mm, 18mm wire, 286LB
C59-675V - Variable rate comfort option, stock rear weight, 2.0" to 2.5" lift. 470/470mm, 16mm wire, 157-230LB variable
C59-677V - Variable rate comfort option, 400+LB heavy rear load weight, 2.5-3" lift. 500/500mm, 16mm wire, 157-230LB variable

Mike: Wondering if you can help me find the right fit here. I almost feel like I need something in between 677V and 329. I've got an 08 Limted v6 and want to increase my rear spring weight/height. Currently on 2" Radflo springs, and I'd like to increase my lift about 1" but I also have easily 300-400# of mostly constant weight above stock. The Radflos are just not able to handle the weight. The weight will vary depending on the needs of the moment. Most often, it'll be 300-400# constant. But there will be times where its not. The 675V might be enough... but I can't find info on it anywhere. Maybe I'm missing it. Thanks.

I think the 677V coils would be the best bet with that constant weight, and also giving the best ride. The 329 coils would also work, but are a constant spring rate and probably wouldn't be more than 2.5" total lift height.

Go with the 677's. I have the 675's and wish I went taller and I don't even carry as much weight as you. They do ride and flex great though! I'm familiar with your build from IG and youtube and think that 677 is what you're looking for based on the description above.

Were you able to swap in some 677Vs? Any feedback on a comparison? Looking at the 677Vs, but I don't carry around anywhere near the kind of weight that the spring is supposedly designed for. Am just looking for something softer than the MT LT springs.

Just saw this and I am running the 677V rears was previously running the standard ICONs that are supplied with their stage 2 kit. The 677s are quite noticeably stiffer, but it brings back the factory rake look, which allows me to carry my gear in the back. I just completed an 8000 mile trip across America with them, and am extremely happy with their performance. I was hauling a 2300lb trailer the entire duration and the springs were phenomenal. No sag, very supportive... Here are some pics of the 677s beside my icons and the lift difference as well... These weren't just driven around on roads either. They survived SteelBender, Gemini Bridges, and Fins N Things in Moab, and Cutthroat trail in Colorado without issue.

See my above post...

So I had been thinking the 599's. But after seeing Boostedka's measurements, i went and measured mine to contrast compare. I actually don't want to lift the rear much more than it is currently, just bring my front up to the height I want(straight/level cv's). Granted my suspension is all shot, that's why I'm rebuilding it, but Driver's ~35 1/8", Passenger's ~36".

So I guess that puts me with the -323, yea? Anybody used these, have measurements? And will my lean come back, with the new springs?

FWIW Being paired with King 25001-125A 2.5" remote reservoir w/adjuster in the rear, and King 25001-124A-EXT 2.5" remote reservoir coilovers w/adjuster.

Someone just bought some 323's from me yesterday, but it's been so busy, I don't remember what vehicle he's planning to put them on.

323's would be 15mm or so lower than 599's so if you're just looking for fresh new springs with little to no lift height, those 323's would work well. Don't forget to consider any accessory weight you have.

With the 4th gens, the leaning could still be an issue, so hold onto any spacers you have, or plan on getting one for the low side. I just checked all the options again, and we don't have a short height offset coil for these. The C59-723 is the "shortest" offset height coil we have, but those would give about 35mm of lift over stock height.

2006 V6 SE 4x4 replacing current 599s. Theyll be paired with ICON 2.0 shocks. ill post OE, 599 and 323 heights once there installed. And maybe some pics :photo:

Big thanks to Mike for helping get me exactly what I wanted for my 4th gen.

These things are seriously beefy. I was considering another set of 5100’s, but I’m really happy I didn’t. This stuff is legit.

Looks great! Which springs did you go with front and back?

I was considering pairing them with 5100s. Looks like I might need to reconsider too. How is the ride?

P82, what type trailer were you pulling? Tongue weight? Pics with trailer? I'm starting coil planning to pull a 14ft RPod. John

675 Vs 677. The 677 ride just as good as the 675 but got me the extra height (full 3") and weight capacity I was after. Picture is loaded with ~400 lbs gear in back and on roof, only 5psi in the air bags. The 677 did require rear upper link removal for easy installation. Be careful and don't rip your abs sensor wires out like I did or install will take twice as long!
