Dobinsons Suspension - 4th Gen Options

Yeah the 677V's have a lower final spring rate than the 327's. The 701V's are more in line with the 327's as far as spring rate.

But how often are you fully loading up and having that issue? How is it when daily driving?

How much lift do you have up front? Must be at least 3" I guess?

Yea, it's about 3" up front to clear 33's. I used to run the 327's with a daystar spacer on the driver side and pulled that assuming the height of the 677s would compensate. Oh boy that dropped the driver side way down. Lol

Bike rack and extra gear in the drawer system stays in there 24/7. I would say driving the rear feels like it has more sway and less "planted". The 327s were a bit firm when not loaded, but if I put 2 full size mountain bikes on the back (+~60lbs) it felt good.

I was basically looking to keep the firmness of the 327's, but bump the rear up in height. I guess I didn't do my research.

I currently have C59-314/GS59-221 front, C59-505/GS59-705 rear and plan on adding maybe ~100-170lbs (hybrid steel front bumper with and without possible future winch) and ~175lbs (rear steel tube bumper + swing out + wheel/tire), and ~110lbs sliders, and mayybe 53lbs for skid plates at some point (all weights on the slightly generous side to help estimate). I'm assuming I will have some sort of sag here so I was wondering which springs (in any?) you think would match well here? I'd like to retain at least around 2" front and 1" rear clearance at worst.

Thanks as always Mike!

So I'm actually contemplating moving to a LT setup (possibly IMS) and was wondering if you could give me a bit advice again.

I've added up the front projected weight to be around ~250-300 lbs all said and done. With the 220/574 struts, which would give me appropriate lift/comfort - 352s or 354s? I'm trying to keep the lift as minimal as possible while retaining the wait holding capabilities - ~2.5 would be ideal.

The rear adds up to roughly ~200-350 lbs constant weight, so would 677s be appropriate here or 701s? I can live with a little rake for the LT.

Thanks....again! I know I bug ya alot mate. :D

If you're going to use the twin tubes, the coil seat height is fixed and 1" taller. You'd need to use the C59-350 coils so that you don't end up with 3" of lift.

If you go with the IMS, you can use the 350, 352 or 354 and set the coil seat height appropriately for the lift height you want.

For the rear, the 677V's will still be good.

Thanks Mike! I guess I was leaning toward the IMS for adjustability. I'm not against 3" of lift really, just wanted to match the rear as best I can.

I more so wanted to know the differences between the 352 and 354 - is it simply 5mm spring height difference? 352 ~2" lift loaded up vs 354 ~2.5" lift loaded up?

If that's about right, I reckon ~3" with the 352s up front (higher perch/coil seat) with ~2.5" lift out back will leave me slightly raked, but close enough for me!

The other option is to re-use my current shocks (or IMS set at the lower perch) and run the 354s for ~2.5" height up front - more rake this way though.

Yeah, just a difference in free height between the 350, 352, and 354 coils.

Yes, 354's on 221 struts would be 2.5" with the weight.

Just bought some of the 352's to run with 5100's I already had. Do these coils account for the drivers side lean? My current set up with Tacoma coils (very sagged from bumper/winch) has a bad lean, I wasn't sure if I should install these with a .25" top out spacer on drivers side from the start?

The 352's are even height on both sides. You could raise the clip up on the driver's side strut to compensate or run a top spacer. Just depends how bad of a lean you've had a some trucks lean a lot worse than others.

I didn't even know these existed! What would these put me at, full-weight loaded up with the 1" higher perch?

Dobinsons Nitrogas Suspesnsion

There is any way to know what i got?

All of the struts and shocks have the part number stamped into the metal base of the shock.

The coils have a white label attached to them with the part number on those.

Yes, it's fine to have the rear higher than the front, that's normal rake, so that when you add weight to the back, or fully load the vehicle up with people, it can support the weight.

Just want to shout out to Mike for helping with my lift setup back in January. Six months on, many trips later, and the suspensions have been fantastic on and off road. Extremely glad I went with Dobinsons.

Front Coils: C59-300
Front Struts: GS59-221
Rear Coils: C59-325
Rear Shocks: GS59-705

Hey! Thanks for the update and the photos. It's looking really good the way you have it setup!!

Looks great! Can you provide some hub-fender measurements? What size tires are you running? Do you have V6 or V8?

If I went with the 701s, I assume I'd still probably run the spacer?

I think I owe Mikey and Dobinsons some feedback. Installed the:
Front Springs: C59-314 - V8 - Stock front end load, 2.5" lift.
Front Shocks: GS59-221 - Twin Tube,
Rear Springs: C59-505 - Stock rear end load, 1.5" lift.
Rear Shocks: GS59-701 - Twin Tube
Added in ft 1/4 inch spacers for a full 3 inches in front. Ended up adding some Firestone air bags (1 inch longer then stock option) in the rear to help with trailer towing. Overall very happy with the result. Runner sits flat now. Much more even damping front to rear compared to before as the front springs were toast after me putting on 180k on them. I’ve owned all the first 4 Gens and love this one. But a recent “Mojave Trail” excursion told me this truck needed some love. I should go back to that trail soon to see how she does now.

Here’s a couple photos of the Dobinsons installed and with the Firestone bags too. Fortunately where I live I didn’t have to deal with a ton of corrosion, pretty good for a 17 year old Runner. Install pretty straight forward and did it myself alone in my quarantine shop

That is an extremely clean 4th Gen!!! Glad you're happy with the ride and everything it's done for you!!

Decided to swap out my 5100s and FJ coils which I've had for about 100k miles. Mike has been top notch and answered every little question I had. The truck rides great!!
Before: 5100s set at 0.85 with FJ coils
