Doc's ZRV(Pic Heavy)

My buddy has a 85 toyota truck with 63 rear leafs. They flex real well but he sometimes has issues because they dont flex enough. He is wanting to swap to coils or better leafs since I always out wheel him with my coils.

How many springs is he running? Since it's a pick-up, he should be able to get away with running 2-or-3. The less springs he has, the better it'll flex. If he's running the overload, take that off for starters. I'm running three in mine right now, and the ass end sits about 2" higher than the front. I'm sitting at a little less than 41" in the back, and 39" in the front. That's from the ground to the middle of the fender well...

Nice!

Nice work! Good to see another NC guy around! That bumper build party sounds like a great idea, I would like to be involved in building mine and learn what goes into it. My stock bumper is beat to junk!

^^ No. I did all this work at a friend of mines house, and needed to get it out of there. I've got a couple panels, the seats, the ADD stuff.

A few flex pics for you guys.....

Here's some carnage pics for you guys.

For those of you that missed my post about driveshaft lengths, what happened was a redneck moment. My brother, an engineer who graduated from the Naval Academy had a "Hey y'all, watch this" moment. He took the slip yoke off the shaft, and lengthened it by cutting the splines off of one of his old drive shafts, as well as some of the tube. He then welded it to an old yoke he had, and put it back on the drive shaft. The U-Joint was fine, not siezed or anything. The Pinion angle is 1.5* less than the driveshaft, which is well within the .5-3* limit. I honestly think this might have worked if we could've gotten the shaft balanced. But, it was Sunday, and there ain't shat open here in the bible belt on Sundays. :ybrick:

Here is the slip yoke and the pinion flange from the 3rd. Snapped clean off.You can see where we tried to lengthen the slip.

And my gas tank...

I dont have any pics of the 3rd, but when I dropped it off at ECGS, they pressure tested the ARB, and it worked. The new gears and install are going to run me $785. Like I said before, good thing my brother volenteered to pay for half of it.

I'm hoping I can get away with a the muffler for a little while while I save up to get a new one.... Unless someone has something from the Cat back that the're willing to get rid of for cheap.....

Know what I just realized again. I say again because I realized it before, but it completly slipped my mind.

I wont be able to use ANY aftermarket rear bumper. they all bolt to the bottom of the frame, right where my rear shackle hangers are.

:ybrick::ybrick::ybrick::ybrick::ybrick::ybrick::ybrick::ybrick::ybrick::ybrick:

Guess we might need to have that bumper fabbing party pretty soon there Sing.... Know anywhere were we can get a good price on metal?

^^^ I sold them the week I was home doing the swap. Sorry. I don't really have anything from the parts truck left. I would've loved to keep it, but has no where to put it so I had to scrap it.....

Some more pics for ya....

Nice job on the flat belly. Its definitely on my to do list. However, i don't really see the benefit of converting to leafs. The stock link setup flexes plenty good with the right set of shocks and springs IMHO

The benifit was the cost. I have about half of what a Sonoran Steel 1.2A costs into this lift. Plus, it's something very few people have done to a 3rd gen. Why not be different, and get something out of it?

Plus, I needed to do something for the 8.4" diff that I had. The housing is a 8.4" out of a Taco, and it was easier to just do the leaf swap rather than cutting and fabricating all the other coil suspension stuff.

Definitely unique. No arguments there and i can appreciate people trying something new. But a set of used LC coils and some bilsteins is really all it takes to get the rear to flex well. Also, i don't see any shocks in the back yet so you can't really compare your setup to the SS1.2 as that includes shocks and i am guessing that you didn't factor that into the cost yet.

Either way, its definitely cool to see the fab work put into it and i'm not trying to trash you for swapping to leafs :cheers:

Can some one post up two things for me?
1)STOCK ride height with 265/75/16 for a 1999 Limited;
2) if you have an aftermarket rear bumper, could you post up pics of the mounting locations? Hell, the front one too. Why not. Gonna have to fab up both anyway.....

Thank you gentlemen. She's still not done yet. I'm supposed to be out there working on her right now, but I had to fab some stuff up, and its hotter than two rats getting it on in a wool sock. Here's some more pics for your enjoyment. I have the pics of the stuff I just fabed, but thier too big for Imageshack. Guess I'll just have to go outside and use the phone.......

Better shot of how she sits now. This is without a driveshaft, gastank, or spare in the back. That should drop it down a little bit and make it sit somewhat level. Also, hopefully I can fab up a rear bumper some time soon, as well as a front. If not, just gonna have to crank up the DRCs....

I actually did it myself. I found some RealTree fabric in a local store, took the panel off, and wrapped it. I plan on doing more, I just need to get all this other stuff done first.

bad ass jeep yours?
